Game doesn't seem to work with my HD 4870. Are there any workarounds?
I think it's related to 4870 not having the support for the newest DX version? Not sure..

You can't play ROTTR with that.

I guess the OP has a Core 2 duo and 2 GB of system ram too as that was top of the line when the 4870 came out in June 2008...

Why would you be a PC gamer with that GPU ? I would switch to a console with that

The sarcasm in this thread lol

PC is core i5 and 4gb ram. Just been waiting for a reason to upgrade gpu, and it seems this game may finally be that reason.

PC was built in 2009 for the record.

I cannot believe you have not found a reason to upgrade that GPU for over 7 years until now. The 4870 is abysmally slow in games for the last 4 to 5 years. Even something like a low-end 750 Ti from several years ago will run rings around it.

Looking at your profile you don't seem to have very many halfway modern or demanding games though. There are a couple I know require dx11 so I'm not sure how you played them.

It's time to retire that gpu. It's been out of date for a long time

Sounds like you need to build a new system. An i5 that old might not be enough for modern games, so even adding more ram and a new GPU you could end up with badly bottlenecked performance.

I'd recommend an i5 6600K, 16GB of RAM, and either a GTX 1060 6GB or RX 480 8GB for a new entry-level gaming build.

And considering how long he apparently keeps a PC, it would be pretty stupid to use an i5 in a brand new build for him. Any i5 already gets fully pegged in several games right now and that's only going to get worse over the next year or two.

A good i5 is still just fine and will be for a while. Unless you're running high end cards at super high resolutions it's not going to bottleneck you. An i7 is a ridiculous waste of money that would be better spent on the video card.

"super higher resolutions" are more gpu dependent so that shows your level of knowledge right there. and AGAIN we have games right now that peg an i5 so with a gtx1060 or better it is stupid to build a brand new gaming pc with an i5 that he will keep for several years. that extra 100 bucks over 5 years is nothing and will allow him to play every game just fine instead of being gimped from the very first day with an i5.

Someone's desperate to justify the money they wasted on an i7. Take your PCGMR snobbery somewhere else.
