I believe that primary weapon attributes contribute to secondary weapon, but secondary weapon stats don't affect primary weapon. From looking at other threads it seems the general opinion is that there is no one place that explains all stats, and you have to learn from trial and error. Some of the guides help and I also watched a couple of youtube videos on 'best character build' that really helped me.
I'm not sure how far through you are, but I've just finished my first playthrough. You are limited to reaching level 21, and actually gain level 22 from completing the final boss.
I'm quite sure that crit chance, crit damage, and elemental/piercing damage on weapons are the only stats that are weapon specific. Strength on your secondary will definitely increase primary weapon damage, and I think Arcane stats are always lumped together although I've never played an Arcane build.
You can get to level 22 is the first playthrough, not sure why you think otherwise. You just won't be there if you don't complete any of the big collection quests or DLC quests or maybe frequently use +experience% gear.
It sucks that no one has bothered to go and really figure out all the systems but I suppose it's really not worth it since you destroy everything so quickly once you get to NG+ with good gear and a ton of crit damage from Sticks and Stones.
I completed all the battle side-quests, but fell short on the collections. I think I was 4 pages short for the final chapter, close on the Ostegoth relics and maybe only 2/3rd on the stones. And I probably didn't make best use of the stones I did use.
As you say, carefully selecting weapons to feed lets you pick which new attribute to apply to a weapon. But I also think it helps boost the existing stats.
Scythes = 274
Light Secondary = 290
Heavy Secondary = 767
So if you get a Possessed weapon with damages near these values and good or no attributes, then that's a keeper since you won't be able to level past these damage values.
I would be curious as to whether having a stat already on the possessed weapon when it's picked up allows for a greater value to the stat.
So it is possible to get them at max damage at an earlier level than 30.
