Best adventure game of all time IMO. Perfectly integrates clever puzzles, humor and plot. Not much else to add -- it's a classic.

Regarding this remaster, it's generally very good. The voice quality is superb relative to the original, and the graphics are much sharper. DOTT was a game that really bumped up against the old 320x200 VGA resolution. VGA didn't work very well for cartoony graphics, and the move to modern high-res has done wonders for the looks of the game.

At the same time, it's not perfect. Had DOTT been made today, the graphics would have been sharper and involved more detail. Instead, the detail that's in the game is just what was barely visible in the VGA version -- they didn't want to taint it by adding more. This results in a game that looks very good to people who remember the original and is clearly the best version of that game we remember, but isn't particularly impressive graphically to newcomers. There's no easy answer here though: had they added more detail to the graphics, purists would be complaining.

All in all, it's a terrific game. If you've never played it, you should, and if you have played it, this is the best version there is.

Where is Day of the Tentacle 2?!!!

This game was the first game I;ve ever played in my life.

I used to go to my best friend house back in the day, we were just kids, and so, he had 3 games, Fury 3, Barbie modeling (his sister game) and DOTT.

Back then we didn't know any English at all, still that didnt stop us to play this masterpiece.

The feeling of solving a puzzle was something I cannot erase from my memories. I actually remember pretty well when we solved the left hand statue puzzle, we were happy as ♥♥♥♥.

I remember how badly we wanted to get Laverne out of the three, sadly we never ended the game due to being so difficult and the lack of language.

In 2010, I solved the game by myself with the ScummVM Version, I felt so good beating the game without any guide or similar, took me a week, but it was totally worth it.

And now 2016, the Remastered version was released.'

Insta buy for me.

10/10, One of the best games of the gold era of adventure games, when devs got inpired and let their imagination flow into their creations. (nowadays its all copy of the copy of the copy aka: Cod)

I never played this however, not at the time, but my god is it everything I hoped it would be.
Part of a long line of classic point and click adventure games.
This is one I can finally say I have played

As good as it was years ago, and then some!

Keep in mind that this game contains a fair bit of 90s pop culture so newer audiences may not pick up on everything.

If you've never played a point-n-click before this is a great starting point, as well as one of the best point-n-click adventures of all time.

You will find this title in almost all the lists made by sites of up to a minimum reputation (maybe is not at Tito's Blog).
And besides, this title will be at the top in more than half of them.

This title was, is, and will be, one of the greatest graphic adventure of all time.

If you played the original Day of the Tentacle back in the 90s, you owe it to yourself to buy this. Double fine did a great job with this remaster; it's exactly the same game only with updated graphics. Being able to switch between the new and old graphics on the fly is really cool too, makes you think 'wow, were the previous graphics really THAT bad?!'

If you haven't played this before, you'll enjoy it if you're looking for one of the most classic and famous adventure games of all time. It's a great game with lots of humor and imagination, memorable characters, a fun story, and really cool artwork. Some of the puzzles are very difficult to figure out, but you- unlike those of us who played it back in the early 90s- have the internet and google to help you with anything that has you stumped, so you're good to go :p

...is a point & click adventure. Purple Tentacle has become more intelligent and has vowed to take over the world, so it is up to Bernard and his friends to return to the Maniac Mansion and save the world.

A remake of the Lucas Arts classic from the golden age of point & click games, you move your character around fixed 2D screens, going in doors, up and down stairs, and other passages. You control three different characters across time: Bernard is in the present, Hoagie is 200 years in the past, and Laverne is 200 years in the future. Things you do in the past may affect object placements or availability in the future, but it's best not to overthink the time travel and paradox.

On your way, you collect items you store in your inventory. This can be used on specific locations in the environment or with other objects, or given to other characters you come across. Using your Chron-O-John time capsule, you can send items to other characters, but once you've done so, you can do it from the menu without actually needing to travel all the way to the time capsule to send or retrieve them.

Depending on the item, person or interactive environment element, you can specify whether you want to open, close, push, pull, use, or talk to them. The answers aren't always straightforward or logical (this is a cartoony comedy, after all), and the game expects you to experiment using objects in different ways until you come across something that works, even if you don't know what it'll be used for at that time.

I can't stress how faithful the devs have been to the original game. Some might want to argue that translating a 320x240 resolution game to modern resolutions could really look like anything, but the entire game was recreated based on the original 1992 and 1993 concept arts used in the original game (which are unlocked once the game is completed). Even the audio is taken directly from the limited-edition CD-ROM version of the original game. And if you really want the original game, the option to play on the original 320x240 resolution (adapted to modern monitors) is available as well!

The game is packed full with slapstick and goofy humor. The characters are weird caricatures, the environments are deliberately twisted and exaggerated, the script is full of corny jokes. The use of objects is ridiculous, with a bunch of hidden achievements from misusing them (here's a free one: using the coffee with the decaf mug will get you the "And then the world explodes" achievement!). Even the very premise is ludicrous: a pet tentacle drinking toxic waste grows two arms (no hands or fingers mind you, merely two small stubs), and that's enough for it to feel empowered enough to attempt and succeed at taking over the world.

It feels like the game was short, a lot shorter than I remember it to be (my playtime includes being AFK for a few hours, and replaying multiple times to get missed achievements). This is without a doubt because I remembered what to do from my past playthrough, but that might just be it: the game heavily targets the nostalgia of gamers who played this game and others like it some 30 years ago, but doesn't have anything new or novel to add to them. It feels like when those old VHS movies were ported to DVD for the first time and they were trying to enhance it with additional content that fell flat. Here, you get images of concept arts, you can turn on a commentary voiceover while playing, and that's about it. I'm not saying I have better ideas of my own, but still...

Some of the mechanics haven't aged well at all. Even back then, having to clarify whether you're pushing, pulling, or using the object was slowly being phased out of point & click games. It's somewhat tedious to have to clarify that I wish to PUSH the button, or that I wish to OPEN the door. I clicked on it, isn't that enough? I understand that the original game was like that, so of course, they kept it here, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a mechanic that aged terribly and may annoy anyone that isn't playing this game with rose-tinted glasses.


There isn't much to say about Day of the Tentacle – Remastered except for what an absolutely perfect remastered edition it is. It has everything it should have: an impeccable port of the original game for modern computers, an aesthetically faithful modern resolution with the optional original resolution kept for posterity. It is the best possible way to introduce new or younger players to point & click classics.

This game was formative for me. Not only was it the first adventure game I played, it also introduced me to a lot of American cultural staples. And its humour helped shape mine.

DOTT is a sort-of-sequel to Maniac Mansion, an older game (which is playable inside DOTT, by the way!). Friends Bernard, Laverne and Hoagie must travel back in time - courtesy of a shoddy time machine by Dr Fred - to prevent Purple Tentacle from gaining super intelligence (and arms!) and conquering the world. Instead, our three protagonists are accidentally scattered across time - far past, present and far future - and have to both rescue themselves and accomplish their original goal.
That's a summary of the silly premise, and the game is just as silly.

How that translates in terms of gameplay is that you have three playable characters occupying the same space - a motel where the events of the game take place - but at different periods in history. You control all three, solving puzzles, sometimes affecting the future, and sending items back and forth among them via the time machine.
This all makes your typical point-and-click puzzle solving a bit more interesting, as you need to think about what all three characters need and remember what items and NPCs and puzzles each version of the motel contains.

As for this modern remaster, I'm very happy to say they did an excellent job. It is basically how we imagine the original version in our minds. The music is also remastered, but I prefer the original. Lucky for everyone, the original art and music (and interface) are included and can be mixed and matched at will. I played modern art & interface with original music.

What I enjoyed

• Triple the playable characters, triple the puzzles, triple the inventory, etc.
  
• Cartoony, funny, and not obnoxious (you hear that, Deponia?)
  
• The remastered art is excellent, making the whole game widescreen and crisp looking.
  
• The new radial action menu is a huge improvement on the old action bar, allowing for faster play while keeping the variety of options that give you all sorts of fun dialogue.

What I didn't like

• This being an early 90s adventure game, the puzzles can be nonsensical sometimes - you have to apply "comedy logic" to some of them, which can get frustrating.
  
• All the things you have to do across all the characters can get a bit overwhelming sometimes and you might forget what to do next. I'd suggest playing this game in as few sessions as possible, because you will forget stuff otherwise. Maybe take notes.

I just relived a piece of my childhood, and it was just as good.

Day of the Tentacle is among my favourite P&C adventures from Lucasarts. I love the art style, I love the whacky protagonists (especially Laverne, she's a treasure) and I love the idea of having 3 different timelines to play with.

The puzzles aren't something impossible to figure out, but I wouldn't say that they're obvious. They're a good, balanced challenge.

What we get in this remastered version is higher quality sound and 16:9 cartoon-y art, instead of the original pixelated 4:3. The original was already stellar, so this remaster is nice, but not revolutionary.

It's a game I'd recommend to anyone, especially to those who like P&C adventure games.
