How does this compare to the first game?
I want to get this because I adore the original CSD, and I'll probably buy it anyway just to support the dev but. What are the big differences between ths game and the original? I've got a basic synopsis from the Steam store page, but I'd like something a bit more detailed, thanks!

Wow, where to begin...I'm sad to say the least.

Basically instead of aiming for getting your restaurant to the highest rank (I mean it is a goal but anyways) the main meat of the game is that now you can work for hire in other food chains with themed foods. Also, you can decorate your place, chooses over a hundred foods now, etc.

Now, why is this all bad? couple of gripes:

1.Mandatory space/enter presses. Unlike the first, where if you were simply good enough with the keyboard you didnt need to switch menus, now it's mandatory just for the ingredients. For the chores? you have to press enter. Simply more reasons to slow you down.

2.Holding stations. Basically, you're forced to cook some of the food ahead of time.
It's not fun. it's a crawl of a time just to get it done. and it spoils during the day (of course it does). Emphasis on being slow.

3.Mandatory perfects. Basically all the restaurants where you're being hired has a perfect day goal. It's no longer optional, one slip and it's over. Was fun at first when you managed to nail down a day on your sklils alone and getting used to the foods. Less fun when it's forced condition (Granted same was for food festives, but thankfully those were a test of recipe memory and quick skills).

4.Slow days. Just...slow. literally feels like the game by default was built in mind to waste hours, just because you accidently thought pretzel bun was P..while same goes for premium (in previous game most food mistakes you'd make would usually be maybe because of certain ingredients sharing 2 buttons or pressing less/more than needed. Not because of total confusion.

5.No clear goal. You barely ever need to step any food in your own restaurant when you got all these other restaurants to deal with. My inner completionist is ruined thanks to it being a much more harsher difficulty curve.

Overall I don't recommend this. Maybe once it's discontinued like its predecessor, gets on sale and hopefully aged to perfection by this point.

What bothers you does not bother everyone. As example, plenty found prep stations a pleasant addition. Furthermore your account neither has hours on the game, nor even owns it currently. better opinion would come from those who have played a great deal of hours on it, not you or I.

I'm hoping you mean **discounted** since the first game has not been pulled from Steam, which is what the word discontinued implies.

As for sales, the holiday sale will be here in about a week, and there's a good chance the game will be included in the sales.

Actually had 2.7 hours in, but refunded. Obviously my opinion is mine alone, but the OP did ask how it compares. And in my opinion, it feels much slower than it's predecessor. That being said I will admit I was stuck currently in the first shift in max wieners, maybe has more to do with that than the game. Either way, bad first impression on me.

And by "discontinued" I did mean that. Though more specifically I meant when the game has been around for a few years and after some hefty patching , perhaps

Hey thanks! I'm glad you shared something more indepth about it than I've seen in steam reviews. I think some of the concepts introduced in this are pretty neat, and could make the game more interesting. But I'm not sure how I feel about a major focus of the game being, working in other resturants rather than your own.

I'll still definitely consider it, but I'll probably wait for a sale.

Thanks. And honestly, I want to love this game and it's dev, it's clearly a dedicated game. Unfortunately , much like dark souls' sequels it becomes harder just for sequel sake as new mechanics are thrown into the mix, again just my opinion here.

That being said I'm considering as well to repurchase maybe after some time has passed and preferably on a sale in case I'd still get mad at it.

I'm sort of somewhere in the middle. There are things about it that I really don't like (the aforementioned lack of a clear goal, for example), but there are things that I think are much better than the first game (addition of prep stations and a bigger food catalog being two). I'm still playing it after over 40 hours, so obviously the things that I don't like aren't enough to dissuade me.

One thing I really miss is Crazy Dave's email bets and the CookBets function. Playing in my own restaurant does feel kind of pointless most of the time, but adding the bets back in could make it way more fun. Money isn't *quite* as important in this game as in the first one, as you can play lots of different foods in C4H mode right off the bat instead of having to save up for them in your own restaurant (I thought this was kind of neat, actually). The dev is working on some commonly asked for improvements (custom keybinding for ingredients), so it should improve even more with future updates.

I like it but agree with those who are caught in the middle. What I enjoyed about the first game, like tricks and shortcuts that came with getting good at a food, were gone with the mandatory spacebar to switch the screen. Also the chores are too many - sometimes I'll even have two dishes at once to do, which I'm assuming must be some kind of glitch.

On the other hand I love the idea of decorating your own restaurant, enjoy the holding stations, like the details of the different restaurants, love that there's way more food (but miss food upgrade choices).

The robber is fun in the new game instead of annoying, at least.

Some things that were fun in the first game, like the salad and beer, aren't in the new one. On the other hand, some of the foods are made easier. It just depends.

There are fun things about both games, so I enjoy both but for different reasons.

It's not as complete as the first game right now (obviously since it just came out) but I enjoy it. There are more foods but many of them are similar. Each food isn't as unique as they were in the first game and the different preperations aren't as well thought out and polished as they were. It sounds kind of bad putting it like that, but it lets you detail your menu a bit more towards where you want it.

Example: there are 4 sliced meat foods that are almost identical. They have different preparation times and the time they last in the holding station also varies slightly. So once you learn what the differences are, you can choose the one that fits how you want to play that day. Having something like Brisket that cooks forever but gives you 18 orders and finishes with one button can really help out when it gets hard.

The big new thing is Cook for Hire. It's similar to the catering and other side areas in the first game. There are hundreds of menus to play through. It can feel a bit unrewarding though because the game seems to suggest getting every day perfect for gold medals.

If you liked the first one, you'll probably like this. It plays a bit like 'early access' right now with regards to the menus in particular, but there's a lot to do.
I agree with AlloyForce on this one. If you are expecting the rushing adrenalin feel and the sense of acomplishments in CSD1, you will be a bit disappointed. :steamfacepalm:
