Can Tandi use a gun?

I freed Tandi from the prison. But she only has a knife. Is there a way to give her a gun?

Can Ian use another pistol? I have Desert Eagle 44. Ian said he uses pistols. But it doesn't seem to work when I gave it to hom.

EDIT: Just to be clear. Before posting this, I have already removed Tandi's knife, and tried to give her a few different guns. And throwing knife. She will always attack with fist.

What are you talking about? You cannot talk to her. I am trying to find out if she's even able to use a gun. And if so, what gun? Because rifle does not work. Not to mention, I can only use steal to access her inventory to give her something. Because there is no way to talk to her. Which means there's no way to tell her to use her best weapon. So I can't even tell if she can use a gun or not. Maybe somebody who actually knows how the game works can give an answer?

I'm not sure about that. For Companions you can though, but she isn't one (at least at that point in the game?)

Below I'll describe how I completed that mission.

I completed that mission by bartering with everyone at the first village that Tandi is from, You can loot everything from their containers and then barter it to any NPC that will talk to you. Doesn't even count as stealing.

She ain't worth all that much, lol.

Been a while, but pretty sure Tandi's sprite only has animations for unarmed and knives. That limits her to melee.
(Maaaybe pistols? That would be the 10mm pistol or the Desert Eagle. Guess the Mauser too? Hm. But I don't think so.) [EDIT: Oops. No, her animation frames support SMGs and other large one handed guns, no the smaller ones.]

That said, if she's already drawn that knife she starts out with, good luck getting her to change weapons - she won't switch weapons by herself, and as you said, she won't enter dialogue.
(You might have a chance to take her equipped knife away from her if she gets knocked out by a critical hit from an enemy, but those a pretty rare - and she needs to survive, of course.)

Just bring her back to Shady Sands. Trying to keep her around isn't worth the trouble. (Certainly not on a first playthrough.)

The other poster already answered how to get Ian to change weapons - just tell him so in dialogue. Make sure he has ammo.
(If he's already using the SMG, it's possible he thinks that one is better than the Desert Eagle - but you should be able to trade or steal the SMG away from him after using that dialog option.)

You can remove anything Tandi has before she uses anything. Including her knife. Hence the question from the start regarding Tandi being able to use something other than knife.
I was trying to figure out if Ian can use a better gun because it didn't seem to work initially. But yes it does work for Ian to use the Desert Eagle. Still can't tell if Tandi can use a weapon other than her starting knife.

OK so the only other weapon she can equip is unarmed? I don't know what you mean by run out of ammo if the only thing she can use is unarmed weapon. And yes I have tried regular pistol, rifle from V15, and Desert Eagle.

Tandi can use 10mm SMG, 14mm Pistol, and .223 Pistol. You need to reverse pickpocket them in to her inventory and take away her knife. If she's already equipped the knife, knock her out and take it off her.

She can probably also use the Ripper and Power Fist.

I'm not sure what "evidence" you're talking about. Did you expect me to make you a video? I'm already giving you more time than you're worth. My "evidence" is that my first playthrough was in 1997 and I've been through the game at least a dozen times. It was already made clear from the start that answering a question with the basis of the question does not answer the question whatsoever.
