What kind of game is this?
I can't really tell if this is a linear horror story-telling game, a choice driven story game, a survival horror, an art game, I genuinely cannot tell what kind of game this is, which is making me not want to pre-order it.

That's what I really like about this game. It has that weird, subtle vibe to it that is very engrossing. It can be anything, from a action adventure, to a spooky horror game.

Sort of! But I don't think when most people talk about "walking simulators" they usually mean games that have a large explorable world and complex branching dialogue trees. At least those aren't elements that I usually associate with that phrase.

I describe it as an exploration adventure game. There's tons of narrative and dialogue, like an adventure game, but instead of traditional adventure game puzzles, we have situations you uncover, react to, and report.

Sorry, just to clarify, it's not a game where you die eventually right? It actually has a start and a finish, not like 'see how long you can survive'?

No, it's not a survival game. I mean, I guess in theory you might die in the end, if that's how the devs wrote the plot, but it's definitely not a game that tests how long you can stay alive.

Ta - now the game got my interest. As you probably gather, I don't like games where it sees how long you can survive. :woodlehappy:

Immersive adventure games faded a long time ago. Playing Myst for days, Riven for months, other ones weren't bad either (Dark Fall, Omega Stone, Lighthouse, etc). The tech has improved and the environments are more traversable, but few really give you a plot to enjoy.

That's because those aren't immersive Adventure games, they're more or less puzzle games with a little exploration added in.

For an immersive Adventure game, you need to check out the older Sierra Online and LucasArts titles. Sure, they don't look like much today (we're talking about EGA and VGA graphics, but some of these games go back to the mid-1980s), but there's a lot more to them than Myst.
