Worst game I ever played
My conclusion is that modern gamers are so starved of culture that they will give something like this a good review. They don't watch TV anymore so haven't seen any good dramas or even melodramas, they are too busy texting in movies and only watch things like Transformers anyway, and music is obviously terrible now. So when a game does something a bit different and presents itself as a thoughtful and meaningful experience with a story and some twinkly music, modern gamers go crazy for it because they just don't have any frame of reference.

That is the only way I can explain all the good reviews. I completed the entire game in one sitting, something like 4 hours or so. It is short, it is boring, it has a very weak story, it has virtually no gameplay at all, and it has a lot of boring pointless repetition - running back and forth along the same few trails and collecting a lot of virtual junk that has absolutely zero use. The dialogue is well acted, but it isn't interesting. The only thing the game really has is a story, and it just isn't a good one or an interesting one.

It's a shame because the presentation was pretty good for an indie game, and it had me excited at first when it had me making various choices like a text adventure. But they are completely meaningless, as is everything else that you do in the game. I am amazed at how bad it turned out.

There is a lot more than just the ending which is weak in this game. And apparently the devs know too seeing as they banned me for a week for being a "malcontent" even though other people called me an idiot etc.. Biased much?

I never mentioned kills or action.... I was playing games like Maniac Mansion, Gabriel Knight, etc before you were even born. And the rest of what you said is nonsense too. You can't explore anything, it is completely linear with 3 paths you can run through in the entire game, all surrounded by invisible walls.

Oh no.

Someone has never played a walking simulator before, it seems.

That's fine. I am not a teenager and I am not here to insult you. Your opinion is your own. And that's just dandy.

Do take note though:

This game (story) was VERY VERY grounded in reality. You were upset at the ending because ... it was realistic. There was no conspiracy going on. There was no one kidnapping little girls in the forest. You were called a fat loser (if I recall, at the lake) - something a "hero" of a game is NEVER called (in a serious sense, like this). It knocks the wind out of you. Because it isnt trying to delude you with fantastical imaginings.

The two main characters thought up all of this in their heads. How lonely it is up there. It was something exciting for them.

And whilst the "second ending" really isn't a real second ending, it just shows so much .... emptiness. It's so sickeningly sad, that he would rather sit there and be engulfed in flames, instead of going back and seeing his sick wife.

Depressing. As. Hell. And absolutely amazing.

THIS is why it gets good reviews. Nothing to do with children, liking Transformers, or Selena Gomez.

No there are countless books, films, and TV shows with depressing or uneventful endings. The Sopranos is a good example. I hate this game because there is zero gameplay and because the story is just bad. It doesn't have to be fantastical, it just has to be good.

And yeah, I have no use for a "walking simulator". To me that makes no sense unless the walking is actually good, and you can roam freely and visit interesting places. This game does not have free roaming, there is only one location and it is tiny with invisible paths everywhere so you can't even explore. You go down path A or path B or you don't go anywhere. Also it is not interesting or pretty or even all immersive. If that's what you want then it would be far better to just buy some big budget game with a world like GTA or Skyrim or Arma3 or something where you can wander 250km without being hemmed in by invisible walls.

Or it would make sense if it was a game with great stories or characters. This game has none of this stuff. It has a bad story, weak characters (and only a few of them), and it's not good at 'walking' either. I guess if my standards were low enough I could find something positive to say, but why bother? Why try to defend such a weak game. I don't get it. Are people so desperate to act like hip indie game players that they will defend anything just because it is indie? I have played countless indie games but you should tell it like it is.

I think it is sad that older games are unexplored by this generation, because if this is the standard of game and story that people today thing is good, then old games would blow their minds.

Well, like I said -- that is your opinion and you're entitled to it. I thought the graphics were beautiful. And I absolutely loved the voice acting.

Walking Simulators are my new favorite thing. I play enough games with blood, and pew-pew, where I don't need it in everything I touch. The less the better (for me).

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture (PS4 version, not the broken PC port) was one of my favorite/best games I played last year. I very much enjoyed "Gone Home," "Dear Esther," and "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" (<- THAT one you may enjoy. Still a lot of walking though).

If you want something inbetween full-story games like this, and a little more interaction; I would suggest some TellTales games. The Walking Dead (season 1 and 2), The Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands are great alternatives.

No real reason to be paranoid? Someone is listening to and transcribing your conversations, trashes your look out, knocks you cold after following you around, cuts the communication lines, tears up the girl's camp, plants evidence all over the place to keep you guessing, and tries to lock you in the cave. I'd say Henry had quite a lot to be paranoid about.

The ending is disappointing to some, but that's because they want "happily ever after". Life isn't like that, and neither is this story. It is what it is, and what the authors intended. Bō is right: It is more like a book than a game.

But there are millions of games that are not about blood or pew pew. I hardly play any games with blood or pew pew. I could list 100 off the top of my head, and they would all be far better than this game in every way. Except maybe graphics.

It pretends to be like that but it all amounts to nothing and there is never any danger or anything even close to that. They are not real conversations, I didn't give 2 craps that someone was listening to my linear conversations. It was complete crap.

No I want any ending (and story) that is somehow interesting, and this isn't. This would never have made it as a book because any publisher would have laughed him out their office. It is a 5 minute story. I could tell the entire story of this game in 1 small paragraph.

tbh the story was weak, the tense was building up the entire time and you where waiting for something to happen. then nothing happens, its like a bedtime story for kids. in the end everything is okay and the killer is kinda nice. booooring
>_o (Banned) May 6, 2016 @ 8:03am
Yep the tension was fake. All it does is play spooky music a few times and you think something big is about to happen, and nothing ever does, and then it ends.
Wilson May 8, 2016 @ 2:20pm
The voices were great . You could have add alot more missions to the game . The price was way to high . $20.00 bucks for this game . This game is worth $9.99 at the most . I will think twice before buy your games anymore .
Whitebeard May 9, 2016 @ 9:27pm
The tension is only "fake" when you find all the evidence. The point of the game is to uncover the whole mystery and discover that it was one paranoid PTSD a-hole doing everything. Only when you have done that is the tension seen as unfounded. Just because you know all this at the end, doesn't make it a weak ending. It's just the end of the story. Take it or leave it, and quit whining about it.

Yeah I'm really going to acknowkledge the opinion of a hacker
Toni 'Bō' Jones May 10, 2016 @ 10:53am
Not a hacker, just a passionate hater. The guy seemed to be really obsessed with the game, which touched him deeply as he cared so much. His previous topic has been deleted and he just got banned for spam.

Congratulations! If this is the worst game you have ever played, your gaming career has been stellar. You should be happy, not sad.
