Mac and Linux support?
Will I lose Mac support if I upgrade?

We are three friends, each one in a different SO: Windows, Ubuntu and Mac.

This version is only for Windows.

The original game had cross platform bugs that never were fixed (at Chapter 2 on the City) and that made us stop playing the game.

Will Mac and Linux get support?
Will I lose the old version of the game if I buy the new one? That would be so sad because I wouldn't be able to play with my friends anymore.

I'm a Linux gamer and I bought this and Riptide. Both games appear in my SteamOS/Linux games list, which is a good sign :)

There is no Definitive Edition port announced for Linux or Mac yet as far as we have seen around, although probably a SteamOS/Linux port might be released later.

You will still be able to play with your friends in the original base Dead Island/Riptide as the Definitive Edition will be a separate entry. But after May 31st, the original Dead Island won't be purchasable anymore.

According to Deep Silver, it won't be on Linux: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/according-to-deep-silver-the-new-editions-of-dead-island-are-not-coming-to-linux.7287

Really weird, since I on top on the stuff in that article that contradicts it, I am able to pre-load it on Linux right now.

Also able to preload on my Linux laptop.

Definitely, If this game comes to Linux I will buy it. I have Dead Island and D.I. Riptide, and play the first in native and the second with wine. I want to upgrade to Definitive (I know that Dead Island owners have a discount), but the news are very confusing

I pinged them quite a few times on their official twitter account. I paid for the upgrade from the original DI and if this game isn't available for my preferred platform, then i told them i'd like to ask for a Steam refund. But it'll be good to know beforehand so that people don't waste their time 'upgrading' for the fee. They haven't responded to me on SteamOS or Linux support. I've pre-loaded the games and they seem to consume space but the folders are empty (i assume due to some form of DRM).

The depots are there, the Linux config is there, just no Linux icon in the store. Could someone confirm if it actually works on Linux?

I can confirm. It's work.

And works better than Dead Island original in Linux? Can you see great improvements in graphics?

I also can confirm that it works. Gonna play some more of it today but the first impressions are good.
