Grass and trees
Any chance that grass and trees are ever going to regrow on the planets? It kinda sucks that u can flatten land but u cant ever put grass on it again nor will trees regrow

I believe there is console command that makes you get grass back. But really it will not matter when you will visit to begin with 100 planets and not to mention thousands of solar systems. Funny, I used to fill up the holes when I had digging resources. It could be because I need order, lol.
It was more about beautifying my base really. Once you flatten it its just grey compacted blahness lol

I can understand that because I found my favorite planet where I'm building my dream home, and I'm careful not to damage the land.

I have my first Base on the starting planet Dreat in the RE scenario. The planet is dead but the sun is so strong that I never need to fill fuel tanks. There I have my biggest garden and start for fresh start and teleport.

I dont think it would be terribly hard to make it where u can replant trees and grass. The growing mechanism exists for our crops, there are tools able to dispense and do different things - simply make the ground be growable if its hit with a gun that spreads seeds and let there be a wheel like everything else to choose what you plant. Make it dependent on resources maybe some kind of seed pod that takes nutrient solution, a seed you make by using the food station to make seeds, and ground dust or soemthing like that

It sounds interesting but I doubt the devs would implant this, mostly because there are tons of planets. In the early game, it often happens that you want to make the first planet your own home.
But in the later game most people live in their big ships.

You can reset the playfield with the console command 'playfield'. This will fill all holes and terrain changes you've made and doesn't have an impact on objects you've built.

Do not use this command if you have an underground base, the consequence is unpredictable and probably not good.

I put a nice little wood base on a public server near a picturesque lake and mountains. I made the mistake of asking new players to harvest some wood for me in exchange for the ingots of their choice. Ya know, trying to help folks out with a simple barter exchange so they don't feel like it's a handout. So sure, a little roleplay of a basic market.

They clearcut every single tree within visual range of my base. Hindsight is always 20/20 I s'pose. At least they didn't dig up the beach.

It's kinda ridiculous, that in a survival game where you have to collect usually regrowing resources, those very same resources won't regrow.

Head -> desk -> repeat.

Certain things that you need for crafting *will* regrow, like plant proteines, mushrooms, fibers etc. Just not those things you don't need like grass. Why would you like grass regrowing, there is no animal farming in this game, and do you want to repeat the hassle to use your terrain flattener tool? I never use this one, it doesn't work well, instead I bp my construction and place it correctly a little above ground and eventually fill the unesthetic gaps with blocks.
But that's just me of course. I can understand people who don't like such illogic things happening, but then in a game you need to be tollerant, or you will throw every title away quickly.

There didn't used to be a way to fill in holes, not for years. Then it was added...
The "regrow" ability might or might not be added, it just depends on what else they have to do first. Like, "A Lot". 8-)

(Suddenly I "flash on" an image of a base being covered / taken over with undergrowth and vines !!)
You can trade for food, medicine, fuel, personal equipment, and most raw materials. The only limited resource is wood. Considering how many orders of magnitude more wood there is to harvest compared to your possible needs, it hardly seems like a practical problem.

Some of the best views I've seen in this game were on planets that didn't even have biospheres, let alone trees.

We are not certain that the big trees don't regrow. Such trees probably take 100 years to grow... ;-)

P.S., It would be nice, but other things must be done first...

Sometimes plants do respawn, and you get trees inside your base.

but it is more of a multiplayer server bug than a feature. I haven't seen it in a while, so maybe it was patched out.

Bigger servers usually do full playfield resets every week or so on all the starting planets, this is one way to get the natural terrain back but you lose anything you build there.

If you are playing single player, you could blueprint your base then reset the playfield and then spawn it back in.

Because its not like there are hundreds of other planets full of resources you could visit or anything. Head on desk indeed...

The point of my post is not the fact it is about resources its about asthetics. When you tear up trees and grass it leaves a grey barren landscape. Its ugly
