Whats up with the Funcom hate?
Devs said they parntered with them for marketing, so they can focuss on making the game while Funcom do the marketing.
And yet everybody n their mother is making it sound like the devs sold the whole company to them and now funcom is incharge, while only thing they are involved with is marketing.

Really dont get whats goin on here

"In addition, we’re delighted to announce that
we’ve partnered with Funcom for marketing duties
on our future projects."

"With Funcom taking care of marketing, we’re free to focus entirely on development, and as you will see with Dark Faction, this has given us the opportunity to raise the bar for both the quality and quantity of our content."

People like to complain. Sometimes it's about something that needs addressing. Sometimes it's about other people complaining about things that don't need addressing.

It would be nice if we had some gameplay footage to talk about instead.

yea they were too bussy with all the marketing before, thats why the game has been in alpha state for a decade lol. but now that they have help with marketing they suddenly magicked a "top notch" dlc into existence. wow all that marketing must really have held back teh coding and animating and everything.

funcom/tencent aside, something feels kina fishy abt this all.. no wonder ppl start to question

What marketing? They've relied on Steam recommendations and word of mouth to sell their game since it was first crowdfunded. They haven't had the capacity to do more than make a few videos and promotional images. This is one of the things a publisher would've taken care of if they'd had one.

True, megacorporations like Funcom/Tencent are famous to give an helping hand to small but succesful Companies and help them grow:-)))

A lot of it is because marketing firms don't give funds, they are paid for their services, yet Funcom's press release says funding and publishing, that's a big difference from just marketing. Intentional or not, Eleon's claim of just marketing comes off as very deceitful and that's what a lot of people took issue with. Then of course the rest is the whole Funcom is owned by Tencent, who do whatever the Chinese government tells them to do, blah blah blah.

That was the point I believe. How did they suddenly get extra time when they weren't really doing it to begin with?

People who are worried about the intent are reading into it stuff that isn't there. They might not be wrong, either, and Eleon certainly hasn't helped matters by both not giving as clear an explanation in their own press release as Funcom did, and shutting down conversation on the subject when the announcement came.

Yes but TBH they did not have to say anything at all either. Nothing says they have to report anything to us at all.
The announcement sounds positive and that they are excited about the new DLC and the partnership.
In the 7 years that I have owned/played this game the developers have never come off as deceitful or dishonest. They have given the modding community access to the game and freedom to do a lot with the game. Even in the year end patch announcement they were excited about the new big project they were doing.
So saying I to am happy for them and will wait and see if anything nefarious comes of it.
As for buying the DLC, yes I will be. If only to give back for all the years of enjoyment i have had playing the game as well as helping to keep it funded for more progress.

About the Funcom/Tencent thing, well lets just say that everything you buy nowadays funds the CCP. Anything made in China and sold here funds the CCP. Kind of a moot argument when you really fund them every time you buy something. You spend more in a week funding CCP than they will get from a $10.00 game sold here.

Because of the old "His name is mud" scinario
Funcom is tencent, and anything associated with tencent ends up being a disaster because...well...its tencent.
Even if its the most harmless relationship, it will still taint them with the mark of tencent which people dont like.

Yes, CCP is bad and basically any chinese company has tie with it. But there is a big "red scare" going on. Part of the hate is likely due to psyop/propaganda from USA.

Tencent is just a holding company investing into other successful company. To name few, those company include :
-Epic Games (Fortnite, Unreal Engine), 40% owned
-Riot Games (League of Legend, TeamFight Tactics), 100% owned
-Grinding Gear Games (Path Of Exile), 80% owned
-Turtle Rock Studios (Back 4 Blood, Left 4 Dead), 100% owned
-FromSoftware (Elden Ring, Dark Souls) ~15% owned
-Remedy Entertainment (Max Payne, Alan Wake), ~4% owned
-Frontier Developments (Elite Dangerous), 9% owned
-Ubisoft (Assassin's Screed, FarCry), 10% owned
and of course Funcom (Conan Exile, The Secret World), 100% owned.

JMHO it is not money that they want, it is your data. Data makes money.

Temporarily. Then they push the team with unreasonable demands, and try to milk as much money out of the company as they possibly can, then when the sales start to drop they shut the company down completely.

Ask EA, they've done it many times.

I would say that from the first T to the last ), it is all sarcasm. Sometimes it's the only way to say certain things

Sarcasm is difficult to convey through text. Especially when some people do actually spout corporate apologist crap unironically sometimes.

Some people are very passionate about some games, and a lot of people love seeing threads they start keep going. Combine the two and you get a lot of drama over small things.

Funcom as a publisher is probably not good for the Empyrion Franchise in the long run, but it was too small to really go anywhere anyway. The reality is that any large publisher is likely to suck the life-blood out of a small studio, it's how they make their quarterly numbers.

That doesn't detract at all from the fact that some people find the game, as it is today, a good value. When it starts sucking, just move on.
