I put it on my CV, and these are the things I had to do:
1. Craft Drone Bay, Drone Spawner pads, and drones.
2. place the Drone bay and spawner pads and add the drones to the Drone Bay.
They will auto launch when a POI or NPC is in the area.
Here are a few things you should be aware of:
1. The Drone bay only holds 13 drone tokens ...aka drones
2. The Drone Bay acts more like a container, though it does not show under the Drop-Down list. It is in Device Menu and is under Equipment.
3. You cannot control targeting like the turrets.
4. On a CV, you will lose them when you warp out, and though slower than my CV they do catch-up as long as I am in the same playfield
5. Though I had more than 2 spawner pads, I could only get 2 to spawn
6. They will launch and fire on Dense Asteroids since they are considered POIs.
7. Sometimes they fire on my CV since it could be in the way of their firing on the NPC or POI.
They shoulda just waited before putting out this half-baked effort. The constructor graphic seems an obvious placeholder and the thing is so large, I guess it might eventually look like its own outrider hangar? The AI, firing on asteroids and so forth, obviously still needs some work.
Seems like they could've accomplished the same functionality with a new type/class of container controller, and then let the designer build the storage space so it fits their ship. Maybe with a max container size such that only 13 drones are allowed?
The arbitrary 13 drone limit also seems wonky, I can store a zillion drones in a cargo container right next to the thing, but they won't "talk". If drone launch is limited to 2 at a time anyway, why the arbitrary limit for imposed clunkiness?
Of course, I'd also still like to see a cold-storage container controller for perishable items. As opposed to an "infinite interior space" fridge.
or I could be way off.....
Drones cannot mine in Empyrion sadly. Yes, I tried.
