kPU and PU?????
what is PU and kPU? I know it deals with power but, don't know if PU is bigger than kPU or vice versus. This is a common theme with these game developers. They never keep it simple.
"Power Generation" "Power Usage". These 2 words are self explanatory but noooo, devs gotta be fancy. lol. Inspite of this, I love this game. Could use more decor and the plant fiber count could be a bit higher on bigger plants but, all in all a great game. Still, What exactly is kPU and PU?

Could be wrong, but I believe PU may just be "Power units", while kPU is something like thousand Power Units, so kPU is bigger.

Awesome thank you. I been experimenting trying to figure out the balance and its been a pain.

PU = Power Units
The letter "k" is short for "kilo", so kPU = 1000 PU, like kilogram = 1000 grams.

Is power units an actual real life measurement? If not, how do I know how many PUs are in kPUs?

easy, just read the answer that has been posted right above your comment.

I've seen games that do something similar with fictional measurements that do not equate to "this is a metric upgrade in essence" so its not necessarily understood.

I'm pointing out there should be some sort of ingame indication, in the Empyrionpedia or whatever, for those types of measurements and their precise values.

to be honest, when I read base stats, the PU and kPU values also don't make sense to me either because of the way I assume all generators add up, but don't actually add up when capacitors are involved. Why use 2 different major units, that's what is creating confusion, what was the logic in using different major units?

I think, the Capacitors are in Power Units "over" so many hours. Like "PU-Hours", or something. In other words, the more PU you are using the less time the Capacitor lasts.

It is smart enough to only consume what you are using (usually). Like the fuel for the generators only is only consumed after the Solar panel Capacitors run out.

You are right about the listed Max power, though, it has a bug I think.

Pretty sure they didn't teach Empyrion power theory in school.

Yeah, I do like that capacitors mean the normal generator stays off and does not use fuel until it has to. I strangely have not enough panels to run my base through the nights, but it still uses almost no fuel to keep the base going overnight. Which leads me to believe there is some math issues too.

Well, if the Capacitors have -almost- enough power to last the night, then it would not need much fuel each night. But it would still be using fuel over many days, so it could run out.

Internally, energy values are in Watts and Kilowatts, and only for the english localization was it changed to PU.
Same deal with volume. Internally and for all other languages, volume is measured in Liters. But for the English localization someone changed it to display as SU instead of L.
Evidently someone didn't like people complaining that object X consumed unrealistic amounts of power or space.

you would think so, but the "bed" lets you sleep for 8 hour slots only, so it's really hard to work out how long the generator runs for. Not having a proper/sane game clock also does not help. But with no generator the base is in darkness for a really long time "in-game", so I assumed adding one would use fuel, but so far no noticeable dent, so I am guessing some rounding errors are in my favour.

But they did teach that when you see a k it generally means x1000. Beyond that it doesn't work any different than any other virtual source-supply power management system. It only really becomes more complicated when dealing with shields and then not by much.

Which does not excuse doing half of your homework in one unit and the other half in another. Details matter to this space marine, you don't get pinpoint landings by just guessing what numbers to punch into the guidance computer.
