HV minigun turrets
I'm starting to think the HV minigun turrets aren't worth all the materials I use to make the truckloads of ammo that they waste. It takes two or even three turrets dozens (hundreds?) of rounds to take down a few spiders, where a few taps on a bank of gatlings will get the job done trivially. THEN there's the inexplicable pauses that seem to have nothing to do with reloading, pauses up to 10 whopping seconds. That's especially bad when they open fire on a group of anything and then the remainder come after you and you're gritting your teeth waiting for them to un-pause.

There's nothing in the ECF file that I've seen that would control or limit the accuracy of them, but there needs to be so that I can mod them to stop wasting so much ammo for nothing. With respect to the pauses, I've seen another complaint about it a while back, but I need to rule out reloading; that will be another mod experiment shortly, reduce the reload time to nothing - or give them infinite ammo - and see if the pauses persist.

If I'm strapped for resources, I'll usually just turn off the turrets until I stop somewhere. They don't waste ammo that way.

By the same token, not mounting them wastes no ammo either. :-)

I leave mine off until I get to a POI, but also have them set to not shoot at predators or prey

Only have them turned on when you're outside the HV and mining, harvesting trees, or looting a POI.
Saves a lot of ammo that way.

Oh, and the Tree Grinder on the front of your HV will chew up spiders and others quite nicely which saves even more ammo

Thing is... today at least I most certainly did want them to shoot at predators. I was driving around Polaris territory killing predators to improve reputation. I also wanted to have some chance to recover ingredients, so I drove in third person so that I had some chance of seeing where the turrets were aiming and looting the carcasses; the turrets' "vision" was better than mine and could detect predators that I would have missed. However... when they start firing at a pack of eight raptors and the rest come careening after me while said turrets take a smoke break, well... I don't like that much.

Having them set not to shoot at predators wasn't an option, but I would like their targeting (ability to actually hit) and ability to maintain ROF to be something better than that of a baby-faced recruit who's never held a gun before.

Hi, have no problems with ammo and HV. Mines set for "predators" and keeps me safe when mining. Have since changed it to include NPC because of drones :))

Their targeting IS horrible. In my base and the cannons kept firing, i would say close to 4-5 minutes when I finally said enough. Went outside and followed the fire path straight to a spider. Shotgunned his arse and walked back to base lol. After that is when I decided to turn off predators along with prey.

I used to do the same all the time, but now that factions exist and reputation can be gained by hunting predators (and any critters in the case of Zirax), I expect that I may be doing a lot more of what I tried to do today. That means the suckers need to work.

Found that Turrets will track a target even with NO ammo in them. I have one that I use as a pointer to the nearest critter.

Haha, very true, empty turrets=houmds

I use tree grinder for predators and turrets for drones. They're good for spotting those slow creeping red dots that get the jump on you.

turrets was always pain lol ours have terrible accuracy an dNPCs shooting thru solid walls ,fighting in this game need really serious rework :)

I find missiles more useful on a HV for critters, the big guns on top have predator/alien unset.
