Stuck between a rock and a hard spot?
Damn deep canyon, i'm no evil Knievel or duke of hazard...

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2527702964

found myself again in a awkward situation, and i had to make some hard choices...
- tunnel my way out.
- possibly create a very long pylon erm "ladder" from a cv to dock too.
- or disassemble.

-tunneling wasn't working well angle to get out properly would take many days...
-pylon kept breaking apart, while being formed in gravity...
- ended up disassembling, i had a sv in my factory que'd up for emergencies. grabbed fuel, 15mm,02, and promethium from my hv for the sv and went to work....

I did not see if you were playing on single player or a server, but if single player, you can use the setposition console command to move your vessel to another position to get around this type of issue.

Yea, it's not very immersive to do so, but it can be done.

i'm playing single player, didn't know about the setposition command. will have to look it up in-case a CV gets irreparably stuck

edit: bu i suppose if i used the setposition command first wouldn't had and tale to tell of the struggle.. :)

Yea, I used it once when I had a bug with my ships teleporting underground. The game even reports that the ship's position was moved successfully when It works. You just have to make sure to use the right X, Y, and Z positions, which you should be able to view by just opening the console and typing "di" and then look at the box in the top right.

Move to a safe, new position and record those axis then use the command to move your vessel. Hope that helps next time.

thanks, i appreciate it. probably save the command as a very last resort for a cv

What a predicament! I've seen these canyons on BM planets before but no idea they were this steep. And, seeing as the issue already resolved, this is just a curiosity, but..... would you have been able to dock that HV to one of your SVs, instead of the CV, to tow it out?

That is actually a better suggestion that I forgot about at the time, using another vessel and the docking method. Might be difficult to do in a tight spot, but is definitely more immersive than my suggestion.

The setposition command could probably be considered a last resort, therefore. Thanks for bringing that to light.

I'm not knocking the position reset either =p In Osiris on the 2018 build, I'd once had a Mecha Crab slide down a hill and decide it was going to clip into the terrain. I was dead set on getting it back, so I edited its position in the game over the course of a day until I got it right and popped it out above me.

OP did state they tried to extend a "ladder" from their CV down to the HV, but experienced structural integrity issues and pieces began to "fall" off when tried to place them. This suggest their CV was too big to go down there itself, which is why I was curious if they had attempted to do the same, with a smaller SV.

Think i'm going to put a box specifically in my hv called emergency supplies... have some extra blocks and a landing pad along with a tool/drill turret maybe a few drill heads...

It's not a bad idea at all. I wished once I had done that when I landed on a 4G planet for the first time. I did not have enough thrusters to take off again.

I had to disassemble my ship somewhat, and put all the thrusters facing downwards, just to be able to take back off again, all the while having to try to not die from 12+ rads on the planet, and raining fire storms several times each day. :steamhappy:

So some extra thrusters that I could have slapped on the sides quickly would have been very handy.

Damn it... did it again really good... least was a few month since last time got stuck so badly.

The extra dark karkness hid the deep trench really good this time no chance to jump it. But learned from my last mistake like above posts.

spawned my small emergency sv and went to my small base on this planet and traded for my interplanetary heavy lifter sv another lesson learned....

and used my emergency kit in my hv, extra blocks and a extra landing pad and was able to fly it out...

If you have a laser drill you can use the fill function to make a dirt platform under your hv. Then raise the hv on the hovers and fill more dirt. Rinse and repeat until out. Or drill a tunnel out. If you see the canyon coming use the fill function to make a dirt bridge.

"Empyrion Family Stuckster', more like.
It's funny cuz this time, it wasn't me.
Sometimes just the 'O' key can force you out of a stuck spot. Sometimes.
