Plants not growing in base
My plants are definitely not growing.

Version Alpha 8.2.3 1789
Planet Tynori

I'm still new to this game. I'm still on my first planet and haven't even built an SV yet. It's possible I'm missing something.

The plants grew fine for awhile BEFORE I sealed my base. I was picking veggies and fruits and it was great.

Then they all died.

I'm pretty sure that was due to a radiation storm. So I replanted them and nothing grew. I did some reasearch and found out that I needed to do some work.

I sealed the base and got O2 installed.
I installed a ventillator.
I made sure the whole place was airtight.
I used the debug feature to make sure O2 was present.
The temperature is constant 22 degrees all over.
There is no radiation in the base.
The there are two empty squares between the grow lights and the plants.
I waited and waited and nothing grew. The sprouts don't die, but they don't grow either.

I picked up ALL the sprouts and went to build a greenhouse. My greenhouse is a whole new base with new core. Everything checks out with O2 and temperature and no radiation. Still the sprouts never grow and never die. I literally sat there in the same room with them and did nothing for a full hour.

I suspect they're glitched but I don't know how to be sure or how to fix it.

Help?

Depending on what you mean with that sentence, this might be the problem.

Making a farm takes 4 levels of blocks. From top to bottom, these are
  1. the ceiling level,
  2. the grow light level (even though grow lights look small, they do occupy the full block),
  3. the plant level (like the grow lights, plants and sapplings do occupy the whole block),
  4. the growing plot level.
When you say that you have "two empty squares between the grow lights and the plants", I am wondering if you have extra levels of air blocks between levels 2 and 3.

"1" empty square....not 2.
the plant takes up the bottom square and the light takes up the upper square.
if you hava a plant, then an empty square, then a light........it wont grow.

I'll assume this planet has a breathable atmosphere? In that case ventilators aren't needed.

Did you accidently turn off the grow lights? Is the grow light 1 tile or 2 tiles away?

-
^grow light on ceiling
- empty(plant grows into this space)
- plot

I've had a bug where an air tight block wasn't working causing plants to die. I noticed I could hear the birds clearly outside when indoors.

I used the debug tool to find the bugged block, removed and placed it again and the plants begab to grow.

Also like sinsling said you don't need ventilators if the planet you're on has breathable o2.
Your grow lights are too high, I think. It should be:

Cieling
Air+Light
Crop Seed
Grow Plot

What you want is a 2-gap between ceiling and growth block, not light and plant; the light-block essentially 'touches' the plant block.

You said there are 2 empty squares between the light and the plants. If that is correct, that is wrong. You need 2 empty blocks between the ceiling and the planter. The light then goes on the ceiling filling one of the blocks, the plant goes below that filling the the other block.

My mistake. I misunderstood the directions. Thanks to sigh-phi-guy for the quick reply and to Niriel for some good details.

I moved the lights down one and the plants got a pretty purple glow on them. And now they're growing normally.

Remember to create an airtight enviornment with a ventilator, even in a breathable atmosphere, otherwise the plants may not grow at all.

No ventilator is needed in a breathable atmosphere.
