Quake 2 was just a working title as it was on a better version of the engine but id couldn't get the rights to the official title they wanted.
And this is coming from someone who played Quake 2 first mainly for the Doom weapons and had more memories of it as a kid when my dad played it. (And the fecking music actually worked in both Quakes.)
I quite like Quake 1's Doom meets PSSM and Minecraft look
A shame the original Quake does not have a downloadable OST. It would have been my introduction to NIN, after being spoiled by Crush 40, Kouji Wada and Amaranthe.
And the Strogg invaded Earth to stop the dumbass humans from messing with dimensional portals.
You could link the entire thing with Wolfenstein even if you do the whole "Doomguy is named Blazkowicz" theory.
Or, you can also play the games and ignore head canon entirely...whichever really floats your boat :D
Where do you come up with this idea?
Sounds like the person that said Quake wasn't supposed to be a fps either, they were really making it to be an rpg....
That would be awesome!
What was it going to be called then?
It was originally slated as an RPG-like experience. The game is even named after Carmack's D&D character.

I don't know anything about the development of Quake II under a different title, but given the incredible difference in subject matter and overall tone, it wouldn't surprise me.
That was also on the helmet
The Quad Damage (Ala Quake) also makes the same sound from Quake when you fire. =]
I think its dead after Quake 4 killed it.
Quake 4 was made like a formula game. If the best of us sat in a room with these people and the people behind this game double blind with the investors present, I think we would come out on top. All of the issues we raised would be dealt with rather than arrogantly dismissed like in this game. Look at Peter jakson with Lotro, that guy made the hobbit into a kiddy flick mainstream popcorn romp. I mean, seriously....................but I'm not saying this game isn't fun or it doesn't have a lot of good in it, but the limitations are obvious without even having to play it.
