How to unlock Ulta-Nightmare mode?

I finished game last night on Hurt Me Plenty difficulty but I can't seem to select hardest mode for new game??

Do note, Ultra nightmare mode is the same difficulty as nightmare, just if you die thats it, game over, and you only get 1 achivement out of it, which is for beating the first level of the game.

IMHO, i think Ultra nightmare is worthless, does not make it harder, just makes it more frustrating because you can loose the whole game by accidently missing a jump so. If you are into that more power too you. Nightmare mode alone is pretty easy as it is.

Yea. That was kinda confused because some ppl said that Nightmare was already unlocked. Shall I start new game with nightmare mode or could I just replay each mission again on my old save and change difficulty to nightmare? I have missed alot secrets so should try find em all.

Ah that's a shame, was hoping to replay on ultra with all the weapons and upgrades.

The whole point of ultra nightmare is for it to be very difficult, like i said, its kinda stupid mode to be honest. Its the exact same difficulty as nightmare except you die, thats it.

Beating the game on nightmare unlocks ultra nightmare.
I can confirm because I beat it on nightmare without using BFG until final boss.

Well I can access Ultra nightmare without beating it on nightmare.

Now im not even sure that you have to beat the game in any difficulty to unlock those things since they are still displayed with red text but can be selected (I did not even try to select them when I started since they looked locked)

Not really needed honestly. I'm on mission 6 right now and if you did everything already, you know locations to things like the first plasmagun you can save the upgrade stations then just backtrack in the level and use them for the stronger weapons. Like on mission two the first time you see the upgrade station for weapons you only have shotguns but in the map there is the assasult rifle and plasma. Plasma stasis is a MAJOR life savor so getting that as soon as you can greatly improves your odds of survival and then I dont even need to tell you how strong shotgun explosive rounds are.... getting it to mastery level before the 3 mission is highly doable and well... makes very short work of the first real danger you face, hell knights.

Having to finish the game to unlock difficulties is lame. Forcing people to replay the game because they couldn't make the actual content replayable enough :/
