Is Ulrich important?
I'm on the quest where you have to find the countefeiters in an old mine. Optional part of it was speaking to Ulrich near Skalitz. I went to his marker, and he was laying face down in his pajamas, dead, with his pants a few meters away from him in the middle of a field. What happened? Is he important?

hell, i went on a quest with him, we were walking along a trail and bandits came and surrounded him and killed his ass, i dont think he's realyl that important

I wouldn't say he's important, but he plays a small part in that specific quest. Nothing afterwards though. Finding him dead is interesting, I wonder what happened... Maybe his AI aggro'd on to a group of high level bandits (they really like the areas in/around Skalitz) lol

He offers some help in a future fight and gives some lore/background info on some stuff. Not essential though. You can literally kill him yourself. I did once. When he took off on horseback I shot his horse. He came to fight me and one well placed headshot later...

I was on the mine quest and had to fight him, i attacked one too many times and he just died. What was *supposed* to happen or what could i have done?

He surrenders. Then you get to talk to him and learn more about him and why he’s there. If you chain attack him enough, it’s possible to outright kill him before he has a chance to surrender though.

I didn't even know he could surrender in that fight, he's just died every time I did it

I’ve never fought him near the mines themselves, it’s always after you catch up to him on the horse chase after you find him at the charcoal burners. I usually shoot his horse, or him and he’ll get off and fight. Then it’s usually the sound of metal dinking off metal as my arrows slowly annoy him into surrender. I’ve never done this quest differently and your last interaction with him should be at the mine itself. Chances are that if you didn’t subdue him prior, you can’t later as there’s no further interaction with him.

At least, that’d be my guess.

Oh, I thought you meant fighting him inside the mines when you confront the forgers. Nevermind then, I've only killed him once by accident when I forgot I had Bane on my sword lol

Yeah, no. I actually never thought about how it plays out should you not catch him in the chase as I’ve never had him get away. Only done it like 3-4 times though.

He got away from me in Hardcore mode once as my horse got stuck on a stick and I got too far away to see his map marker. You just go to the inn and find him there so you can talk to him

Ulrich von Liechtenstein?

He dissapears forever if you manage to convince him, which means killing him doesnt do any harm either first time or second. He is kinda usefull when you infiltrate mines, since main entrance approach is the fastest, unless you want to lose your mind in a labyrinth, especially in hardcore or fight 5? i think enemies at once, he does help with that, so its "better" to kill him second time + you get more lore and all that ♥♥♥♥. And he wears best plate armor in game, i think ratay tourney slightly better or the same? Getting it elsewhere is hard, saw it once on a guard corpse after bandits/guards skirmish.

I realize now when I made this post I mixed up Divish and Ulrich. Ulrich is just the German knight, but I thought it was Divish laying dead in the middle of a field so I got concerned.

He shows up at the Inn in Sausau, where he tells you to meet him at sunset and you duel. You can kill him, be killed, or make him surrender. When he surrenders you learn most of what he knows and he will go to the mines if you ask him. I didn't ask him and ended up not having much trouble there solo.
