Even if you don't want or plan to sell the stuff you stole, you can quickly steal some pretty OP Armor and Weapon/Bow.
Granted, you won't be able to use the strongest very early, since you most likely lack the stats, but once you have the stats, you'll be able to use them immediately.
I don't think I'll ever need to buy any armor or weapon ever. I just robbed the hunter in Rattay, and now I am in possession of some of the stronger, maybe even strongest Bows. Why should I ever want to buy any Bows now?
That being said, you get decent money and items just from killing bandits. Not as good as stealing but more than sufficient to buy everything you need and you get very good stuff from bandits
Also why should you *have* to buy bows, anyway? If you can steal one, you're good. I don't see the problem.
I feel this as well, I know of three ways to make decent coin
- Robbery
- Mercencary work (Killing bandits etc)
- Hunting (Hunting & cooking meat)
All those will earn money really quickly. I don't "mind" it but I was expecting good gear & money would be harder to come by considering all the hype about how Henry was just some poor blacksmiths son.
Full plate and a state-of-the-art sword, worth like 20k+ here.
I mean, i went to a tavern and found a full-plate helmet that was worth 2700...like...yeah, i could "Earn" the money by spending hours on end, or i just sweep through the city. The only thing i don't understand is how the "cooling down" works. Because some items begin to turn normal after a while and i think it is tied to their worth.
Still, would be a bummer to have to wait out 2 weeks for a harnish to become useable

It's explained this way - more valuable stuff is more likely to be recognized by merchants, because really valuable stuff was quite rare in medieval times, and in rather small communities it was easily recognizable. Moreover, former owners are likely to keep searching for their stuff, asking around and thus raising awareness that this particular set of items is stolen. And all of that makes sense.
I wouldn't mind if that duration increased - IMO it's too short for really valuable items.
