Native Language?
So I was wondering what the "native language" is that youre supposed to play the game in? Because there is only english, german or france as far as the audio is concerned and german seems like a weird choice if you want to get fully immersed because rural population in bohemia certainly wasnt speaking german and the official language of the hre was Latin but the various kingdoms and duchies inside still spoke in their native tongue so I assume english is the way to go as a compromise. What are your guys thoughts?

According to Wikipedia the population by language in the Kingdom of Bohemia was: 62% czech and 36% german which probably makes the rural areas mostly speak czech instead of german. I also saw in an english speaking preview that germans were called "deutsche" instead of germans or a german knight saying "Gottverdammt" in the english version. I just fear that this coudnt be possible in the german version because everyone speaks perfect german.

For me it's one of the biggest minus of this game yet. There will be no "native" voice over (Czech dubbing).

German was spoken by the upper class and nobility. Czech was spoken by the lower class. latin was the language of the clergy and the Church, as well as many important documents.

The game actually has a Codex entry on this.

So the best compromise is still english? Because you get native words / sentences mixed with a common shared language?

There are some untranslated phrases (enemy battle taunts, and the Cuman language). I suppose you could apply a bit of Fridge Logic here: Everything in the game is spoken in Czech, but since that's your character's native tongue, he understands it as easily I understand English (I'm an American). Basically, your character knows what's being said, and this is how he hears it.

I remember a part in Metal gear Solid 3, where a character says Naked Snake's Russian is superb, yet the entire conversation was in English. The implication being that to someone who didn't understand it, they were speaking Russian. However, since Snake knows the language, and we play as him, we understand it as he does, and thus, hear it in English.

However, the native language is whichever one you understand best, and have your game speak in.

The best compromise is English because the developers and writers of the game are English, believe it or not things get lost in translation. Modern Czech is about as anachronistic as modern German.

I guess Czech market is too small to justify voice acting expenses.
