I'm at the bennining of the gamr, just after I wake up in the mill and, as I usually do in games, I'm exploring and doing side quest before following the main quest.
I think I'll go back to the main quest until my chracter get some training.
You can absolutely go out and explore before starting the main quest, and seeing that at the start the main quest is very let's say intense, you won't have much time for sight seeing and side quests (you should take time in between each "chapter" of the main quest to go explore before being railoaded into another time sensitive event)
The only thing is that you won't be able to fight , even is your character was level 20 and you an experienced kcd player because you haven't unlocked the art of parrying or blocking attacks yet, so while you can hit your enemies with a sword you have absolutely no way to defend yourself and all their blows will land full force.
But most side quests can be done without frontal fighting, you can talk your way out of many issues, if you need to fight you can use archery if you buy or find a vambrace to protect your arms from the bowstring (you need it until you're level 5 in archery), you can wait for bandits and others to be asleep at night and use sneaking, steal from them, use a dagger to assassinate them or knock them out and wack at them with a weapon or shoot them while unconscious (remove all their armor before so it goes faster and you don't damage the loot), you can use potions and poisons too.
Just avoid ambushes and remember that using a sword, axe etc is not an option you have yet :)
The combat system in this game is awful. The enemies use moves that seemingly cannot be blocked or countered and they cheese you to death, like when the town drunk blocks all of your attacks, repeatedly grabs you and knees you in the face and lands combos on you and you can't land a single one on him and you can't do anything to get away from him.
*This is honestly not the sort of game I wanted and if Steam would let me I'd demand a refund and trade it in for a better game in a heartbeat, but I'm more than 2hrs into the game and now it seems I'm stuck with it, but I seriously doubt I will ever have the patience to finish it.
The reason Kunesh (the drunk) always beats the crap out of you is because he's a grown man that often gets into drunken brawls. Henry simply doesn't have the strength or the knowledge (yet) to deal with something like that. Once you get to Rattay and unlock Captain Bernard's traing you can ask to do some hand to hand combat. Eventually you learn how to do those seemingly unblockable attacks yourself in addition to countering them.
The funny thing is that the full armor is so heavy I can't wear it completly without beeing in overweight :D
With that stuff I can handle fight against bandits just wearing regular clothes, but when I encounter armored ennmies, I just can't survive.
I'll continue exploring and doing what I can without fighting, but sometimes random encouters trie to kill me xd
I remember once I was walking to a camp, looking for a bed to save, and it was full of bandits ... I died and lost 2h of gameplay ù_ù
If I get into fight that I know I won't win anyway I'm trying to clinch with oponnent to push him back and then run away. I think winning clinch is strength based. There's perk for it too, and you have to react with attack button in right moment (correct me if I'm wrong), so train with Cpt. Bernard in Rattay as much as you can. It's free, gives Henry strength, agility, defence and attack skills really quickly and you won't die from wooden sword :D
Imho combat system is one of best I've ever expirienced in any game. It is hard and complex but really rewarding and good looking. There are still some things in it that I don't understand but maybe that's because I went straight for hard mode, so learning timing in fights is hard.
Problems start when there are more than one enemy... Ambushes are impossible for me to escape.
I just had a thought right now, there's button for giving up, anyone knows if this actually works in situations like that ? It would suck if all bandits were murderers, there should be possibility to get robbed. (going to try that next time )
can u make that clear?
btw: who r u? necromant?
Nope. The reason Kunesh beats you is because it is scripted. I won the fight with him and still the fight ends with his "victory". The whole game is a set of badly laid rails.
