Actually, I don't even remember if I got anything special for winning. You might just be able to throw the match.
Anyway, I agree. This card game was actually more annoying than 8's. Which is a FEAT.
But there are mandatory matches at some point in the story but you can win or loose it doesn't matter (if you win you get an accessory but you can get it otherwise)
The only thing that makes people like the card game from 8 is that it can be used to break the entire game, and basically exists for that purpose. If you couldn't refine cards, and it was just the card game itself, it would be equally as popular as 9's card game. That said, some people genuinely do like the collection and stat aspect of 9's card game. I fall in that camp and most certainly am not lying, you're talking something far too trivial for people to care enough to lie about. Every playthrough I get one of every card, and I get a team of 5 with every arrow and the highest stats I can get until boredom.
People's opinions and preferences very much more than you seem to understand.
