Original font (with european accents)

Hi,

I made a new font - named Alexandria - as close as possible to the original one to enjoy FFIX with all the french accents (on capital and lowercase letters), and some weird letters like "œ" and "ç" or signs like "Э" (which is used in some specific cases in the game).

I also added a bunch of specific letters like "ñ", "ò" or "ü" for european gamers. I don't know about all the alphabets so maybe there are some missing.

I watched a ton of videos and zoomed on old screenshots from the PSX original game to be as faithful as possible to the original font.
Fun fact, the original font uses two shades of pixels (white for the letter, and grey for relief) + black for the shadow (automatically generated). I only used one shade but I think the result is really close to the original font.

What is the difference with the "Vivi" and "Zidane" fonts ?

- Vivi's font is a pixelated and stylized font, very nice and containing french accents but not so close to the original one.
- Zidane font is very close to the original one, but with no accents and limited signs.

I was inspired by Zidane to create mine. Actually, I recreated everything from scratch and modified some things :

* I added the accents
* The "a" with the curve above was used in the US version. I implemented the latin "ɑ" we had in the european version of the game.
* I redesigned the numbers. There are 2 or 3 different fonts for the numbers in the game so I tried to keep it close to the menu's version.
* I improved the punctuation and added some signs.
* I harmonized the heights, the width and the spacing between the letters.

Note : I still think it appears too large on the screen and it would be better with a smaller size. I didn't manage to reduce it, I am really not a modder...

I added additionnal letters "ß, ű, ő" and signs like ♥ ★ ♪ ∞ ♂️ ♀ ↑ ↓ ← → and more.

I tested it with Moguri Mod with this method and it works. Replace "Arial" with "Alexandria" in the memoria.ini file.

It may help you to check the potential missing letters (I see that you don't have the german ß) and the different "symbol" characters. I am not sure if they are all actually used in-game but I know for sure that the heart ♥ is used in the Nero family side-quest (the Nero girls speak with it) and there's several in the Dali hotel's charts. I guess that these characters are simply not printed with your current version of Alexandria font, which is no big deal but it's worth checking that it doesn't crash the game or something ^^"

I am afraid of thinking of the japanese charmaps... these were a nightmare for me back then.

Not sure if this mod does the same thing as well, but the English PAL PS1 version of FF9 had all the text with their British spelling as opposed to their American spelling like a lot of other games did back then and still do today.

You can switch from american english to british english in the title screen. It basically uses the PS1 english PAL resources when you do that (that mainly includes the british spellings but also a couple of technical details).
That's not what this font is about though.

@TU102 Happy you like it! I don't know about the original size, and I am not sure you can change it (even modifying the .ini, I tried but I didn't see any difference in game).

Hi,

the font doesn't load. could be to do something with this: https://github.com/Albeoris/Memoria/issues/129

i noticed that your Alexandria fonts contains 'Regular' so could be that's why it doesn't load up in the game using moguri/memoria. maybe try to upload an alternative version that isn't tagged as regular (maybe try bold?)

edit: this is irrelevant for your font, since it is included in Moguri. It is still relevant for other fonts installed by users.
