its the players... fault? Bad player (whacks player with rolled up newspaper) Bad bad!
Do I have to like every mod out there? Sometimes I start a new mod and say "yeah no... I don't want to play that" e.g. Commonwealth stories borked my graphics and starts out on a "kill the Christians and open a house of ill repute" quest. Yeah no... Really interesting but not really my game.
Other times a mod borks the game and it's "start over" time... Not happy about that. A mod that borks my game and makes me start over is worse than no mod at all, but it's the risk in checking out mods.
I guess it “made sense” to me as many of the quests either pertain to Lily’s personal story arc, or are given to you in such a way that it narratively tracks that you’d have her along for the ride.
I also got a chuckle out of the custom companion messages that said “Lily has dismissed you” and “Lily has recruited you as her sidekick” to compliment the running “joke” that you weren’t the main character in this story.
Her voice…yeah, I can totally understand that some people could be put off by that exaggerated Bostonian accent, but you can’t deny the girl gave a pretty damn good performance - certainly on par or better than anything in the vanilla game.
Maybe it doesn’t bother me as much because I’m from the Mid-Atlantic US and am used to hearing New England, New York, New Jersey, and Philly accents.
The one that actually bothered me was Rizzo.
I don’t know what that guy was going for. He was trying to mix black gangsta with 1950s white greaser, but then you could also hear what I assume is his actual accent that sounds like he could be from Britain (like when he pronounces “garage” like “gair-ridge”). On top of that his audio quality was noticeably poorer than most of the other characters. I hated hearing Rizzo talk.
Lily and Rizzo’s voices aside though, I can’t see why FSD got this supposedly large wave of hate. Yeah, there are some questionable quests that have you going back and forth a lot, and some of the lengthy dialogue “cut scenes” can get stuck but overall it’s a pretty darn good quest mod with an interesting story to tell, memorable characters, and lots of content - definitely better than 90% of the others out there. The only quest mod I’ve played that I can say was better was America Rising 2.
