Earning it or getting it however it's supposed to be normally acquired is always the preferred method.
Second, that gun has been bugged for the entire time it's existed in the game, according to many, many posts online.
This mod might help, but you should read its information thoroughly before deciding whether it's right for your issue. But gaining the weapons *as they are meant to be* rather than just cheated into existence, is far more important to do.

Whether it'll work on a non-earned item, who knows. Since you spawned the weapons they might not work 'as intended' BECAUSE you spawned them. This game is fragile at best, and console spawns and changes should be used *sparingly* and as a last resort.
The weapon mod you're looking for is a "Never Ending" mod. You have to attach it to your weapon. Now, there are a variety of bugs with the "Never Ending" mod itself, leading to problems many users are experiencing. It's a finnicky one. You have to attach this mod to your console-dropped Aeternus.
The "unlimited ammo" effect is somewhat misleading. You are actually consuming your fusion core. The only difference is that when a core is depleted, it gets replaced by a new, full fusion core by a little script tied to the weapon. It is not behaving well from time to time. It has a variety of reasons to not behave properly. I am not sure if the mod (Aeternus Ammo Fix[www.nexusmods.com]) mentioned by Zekiran is useful or not as I don't use this weapon myself. It did work at my end. But it is just not my thing. It's on a display in one of my settlements...
If you want to be sure to have an Aeternus with the mod applied, your best bet is to spawn its owner, the Rogue Warrior. However, instead of using an existing one (or your Nuka world quest could break...), just get a clone. The "xx" here is the place of Nuka World DLC in your load order. If you're not sure, you can use "help command" to identify the "xx".
But even then, it is not guaranteed that the weapon is behaving as what you are expecting. As mentioned before, the weapon mod is not behaving very well. Using that fix mod (from Nexus) may overcome it.
This command worked the last time I did it.....

I spent many weeks searching those things. I did think the Core isn't even an Ammo type till it's used as that. Now i know why it's marked as ammo.
Never Ending is just no reload. 887 out of 887 ammo will be in the gun.
Picking up the same ammo type does allow you to reload the never ending thing. I use the mod a lot but i draw the line at cores. I don't want to console more in.
The Aeternus works without using Fusion Core charges. Inset one fusion core and you are done. If you get it by doing the quest. if that is a glitch or bug, does not matter. It just works. :)
The OP's mistake was trying to spawn it without doing the quest. Which may have bugged it.
