Question about the Robotics Expert perk.
Is Robotics Expert of any real use after I defeat the Mechanist? Or is it really necessary, or just a really good idea to get it before tackling the Mechanist? Are there still lots of robots about after the Mechanist is defeated?

There will still be plenty of robots around after the Mechanist is defeated, and apart from still being useful for hacking robots, ranks in the perk are required for crafting the better parts for your own robots at the robot workbench. That's especially useful with the full range of robot parts being automatically unlocked after the Mechanist's defeat.

it lets you hack robots by pressing the reload button, if you get close enough.

There are robots that are immune to the perk, like codsworth, but for the most part you should be able to hack any robot you can get close enough to.

It's a pretty incredible jump in your robot building options at the end of the Automatron DLC's questline.

You go from being able to to craft only the few parts that actually drop from robots to having the entire range of parts available, as long as you have the Robotics Expert ranks required to craft them.

Robotics Expert is great for both making robots and breaking robots.

enemy assaultron in your face? hack it and make it kill it's own allies, set it to self destruct or shut it down and then destory it with gunfire.

Crap all the way
Firepower > Gimmicks

Only useful if using mods to have more fun with robots that you made.

I did notice you need it for some unreliable mods on the Robot Workbench. It even says they're unreliable. Nah. I play survival. Not gonna go "groundhog" day for a snazzy but failure prone Robot Modification.
And I think I've hacked a robot once... All in all, this perk is right up there with "Leadbelly", unless someone can teach how to use it to me.

It is very useful to destroy or take over "sleeping" robots; in Nuka-World alone I had used it to detonate inactive sentry bots, protectrons and assultrons.

So a perk point for a few robots?

Yeah It was that or blacksmith; I don't purchase perks that improve damage as I have a mod to replace them with something else.

An extra potential benefit in Nuka World's Galactic Zone is that any robots still surviving when you properly restore the star control system will be your allies.

I've even restored control without destroying a single turret or robot in the Galactic Zone, though ironically I wasn't even using Robotics Expert for that (even if it would have made it easier).

I wont ever be back there. I looted it, planted a flag and went on my way.

it is, tankbots, assaltrons could be your firepower when hacked

Okay, thanks everybody. From what you've all been saying I guess that what I'm going to do is get the first rank of the Robotics Expert perk on my next level up and then go after the Mechanist.

I'm taking the game slowly. I want to get as much done in the game, get as many adventures in as possible, before I progress the main quest or do anything that restricts my options. I know that I can't keep that up forever, but I want to cross any points of no return knowingly. Thanks again, all .

I'm on level 71 and I haven't met Nick Valentine yet. Getting the first rank of Robotic Expert for the Automatron content is a good idea.

Only if you have stealth.
Otherwise it will be useless. Well, for mechanist it will be anyways.
