Those are missing textures or bad cell edits.

Do you use mods??

They are - notice that the gun is not a vanilla weapon (looks like an old Mauser pistol) and the companion HUD widget on the left.

My guess is either a texture-related issue or perhaps something stemming from a lighting mod.

I recall that with Skyrim, an improperly installed lighting mod or a conflict stemming from a lighting mod and other things could result in graphical anomalies and strange visuals on the surfaces and objects which the light/shadows would touch.

Actually last time I did the submarine mission I had a similar experience. It's entirely possible that one of my very very many settlement mods had changed the location a little, just enough. It was impossible to see where I was, until going through doorways.

But definitely not a normal vanilla issue.

Yeah

Generally speaking when someone here has trouble and is asked "do you use mods" it also means "we need to know WHICH mods because that is important sometimes."

If you want to fix it, try the No Room Bounds mod. As it's a play once if at all quest I'd just ignore it unless you get a similar problem in Fallons, Medford hospital and some vaults.

Failing that there is also an ini setting that changes preculling everywhere. It is likely to cost performance everywhere too tho'.

DOF/blur enabled can also cause glitches in modded games, even vanilla.

The only time I had seen missing textures similar to that was when there was conflicting mods in the cell.

As in, I did not use a scrapping mod but the modder had used a scrapping mod when creating a settlement plan. So all the textures came out wonky as @#$% and you could see through them in certain spots.

Honestly, if inside the sub is the ONLY place you seen it, I would not bother chasing it down as it can take far more time to do that than you will ever spend inside that sub, not to mention fixes could cause new problems elsewhere as hawkeye just pointed out.

Although it would be nice to find a solution so anyone searching for a fix in the future has some documentation on it.

Not surprising. I have heard more people having issues with PRP than reason why to use it.
