Can Maximus and Lucy's Relationship Be Considered Woke?
I personally think it flows extremely well into the narrative. Both characters are acted well and fits into the lore perfectly.

I have seen some complaints on the diverse choice of character though. Surely this is simply a casting choice and there are no hidden messages behind these choices.

Unlike the inclusion of Dane (the he/girl) which is just blatant political pandering in my opinion. They really couldn't help themselves but to put in a transgender character into the wasteland.

Why is Dane seen as transgender?
She is a girl in a military outfit.
You expected long curly hair?
How would that fit in a power armor?
Short hair for girls or long hair for boys doesn't change gender.

If you think so, please go to a heavy metal festival and tell them.
I shall be at the back, watching it happen while eating popcorn.

Never understood the whole woke anti-woke stuff anyway.

Call me old-fashioned but climate, economy, healthcare, education, and several wars on this planet seem a lot more important then whether or not someone complies to the cultural standards of random individuals.

If someone is gay, so what?
You are transgender?
Fine.

Don't get me started on mixed race nonsense.

We're all humans.

Live and let live be who you want to be.

As an archaeologist I can promise you your skeleton shall be bèige and categorized as male/female/child anyway ;-)

They have a mustache.

And also, no one cares about Dane being that way, because with her they never make a big deal about it, it isn't shoved down our throats.

The way Maximus is written is obnoxious, he's like a 16 year old child in a man's body. I wouldn't call it 'woke' but its certainly bad characterization.

It sort of feels natural in the Fallout series, it's like with James Holden and Naomi Nagata in The Expanse. But that the ghouls wife had to be black too, well that was a bit too much for my taste. But his wife is evil so that makes it okay again i guess.

It was not too woke. it was still okay at least for me. And i think the Fallout universe's 1950's there was no racism and all that, so it does feel a bit more natural seeing something like that.
There's no way to block posts about Sponge Betty Blue pants, is there?

Are you talking about Betty, the new overseer elected for Vault 33?
It surprised me, but Maximus was actually a well written black character. And Lucy was shown as a promiscuous woman since first episode.
The problem is Hollywierd thinks the only way to white redemption is through interracial relationships.

If you're the kind of person who takes offense at "mixed relationships" like we still live in the 1950s, I suppose it could
The story and setting of fallout doesn't really allow for "mixed relationships"

there is literally nothing in fallout that would lead you to that conclusion

It's also an interesting element to have for Lucy because you can see how she's shaped by that vaguely eugenics-style breeding ideal as part of her vault upbringing.

Fallout 4's potential of having Cait, Curie, Danse, Gage, Hancock, MacCready, Piper, and Preston all in a romantic relationship with the Sole Survivor particularly argues otherwise. It mixes gender and race regardless of who or what you made your character, plus one's a ghoul, one's a synth, and another's a synth who was formerly a robot.
Fallout 4 is woke and that's great!

On a...well agreeable but more serious tone, the game does explore themes of racism, love, relationships, gender, gender roles etc but it does that immersively. Women and men, most anything else is not hindered statistically based on gender or anything, it's the players agency in their environment, what they experience and how they're treated that gets explored by the player. I like that and it's apparently woke so eh!

And aside in that envrionment you have characters that break, or make, the mold affecting our experience too. You have your dainty ladies but you also have your waste walking legendary amazon jet heads (not just in 4) your elderly mutants actualzing and being able to respect that, or not, for example.

I don't think the offense is the "mixed relationships" but the lack of diversity in such relationships. It always ends up being the same harmful stereotypical tropes.
Oh and also part of some characters IS making the mold, since they're synths otherwise.....

I don't think that's ever been the problem. The problem is when other people don't feel like identify us as how we identify ourselves.

Well, it makes sense if you are one of the last hundred humans left, survival kinda has to take precedence over equity.
