Fallout TV Show: Dane's They/Them Character

I just finished watching Season 1 and I couldn't overlook this. It's a good show but also quite Woke. Can someone clarify what exactly Dane is? I am referring to the Brotherhood of Steel character who is a friend of Maximus.

Firstly, there's no way Dane would ever survive out in the wasteland, let alone enlist in the Brotherhood of Steel. The Brotherhood is not known for being tolerant of anyone different and is the last place you would expect to find a trans or gay character. In reality, they would probably be executed or thrown into prison, but instead, Dane has somehow made it to aspirant.

Also, I've seen some people complaining about the overly diverse demographic of the main characters, for example, Lucy and Maximus, but I don’t think the producers did it on purpose. Regardless, it does flow well. However, Dane's They/Them identity feels completely unrealistic and out of place here.

What are they trying to achieve by putting in such a character... Is it just ESG / DEI political pandering?

I just did some more research and the actress playing that character is Xelia Mendes Jones. (who is apparently a transgender and goes by He/They)

Question still remains though.. what exactly is the character Dane. I’m now even more confused… and what exactly is a “he/they”

The Brotherhood is intolerant when it comes to Mutants and Monsters. Super Mutants, Feral Ghouls, even Ghouls with still intact mind, Synths when we talk about Boston for being a technological Abomination.

This thread is either full of some next level gas lighting, or some here will lie/re-write history to suit themselves. Not only are there different[fallout-archive.fandom.com] endings[fallout-archive.fandom.com] to Veronica's quest, none of them have the Brotherhood "kicking her out." Her choosing to leave, or stay with the Brotherhood has nothing to do with being gay.

The truth is any unnecessary use of medical supplies in a post-apocalyptic scenario would be deemed wasteful and unwarranted and most definitely denied in the brotherhood along with any behavior that would cripple or stunt the "production" of future BoS soldiers.

This is a post-apocalyptic scenario where people will kill you for a can of beans, you're

So the character is supposed to be a guy. But they happen to select a girl to play the character?
