New update means above 60 FPS without the game breaking?
This game is known to break when you run it at to high of a frame rate, has there been any word on if this will be fixed? They mention that on console it will finally run at 60 FPS but honestly I don't consider that a achievement because this game is kinda ancient at this point and should have been able to run at 60 FPS on console hardware anyway. I would like to revisit the game when the patch comes out but after many years of running 100+ FPS on everything 60 feels pretty sluggish, its one of the many reasons I have always preferred PC gaming. If anyone has links or info on whether or not Bethesda plans to fix the engine being tied to FPS I would love to know! Thanks!

Very likely not. The announcement mentions the game running at 60fps, but not anything higher was mentioned.

If you do not shy away from mods then you can use the High FPS Physics Fix to run the game at higher refresh rates than 60Hz:

Yeah they indicated it would be boosting consoles TO the PC standard of 60 for the game. More than likely it'll detect that your rig CAN go above that, but it's not going to change the engine to go higher. That would be a complete overhaul of a 15+ year old engine, and that ain't happening.

Since the high fps physics fix fixes a bunch of other stuff as well (e.g. loading time, sprint stuttering) you should use it even if your game is capped at 60 fps.

I hope the" new update will improve loading times... it's just a nightmare right now...
Got a good rig but damn I feel like playing on HDD.

PC standard is actually way above 60 FPS and has been for a long time. Tying the engine working well to a specific FPS has always been a terrible idea and has caused issues in every game I have seen with a similar system. Its to bad devs still do this from time to time as it is a terrible way to program a game. I hope you are wrong but I have a feeling you are right haha.

It looks like it includes alot of welcome fixes! If a modder can do it maybe Bethesda can figure it out to. :lunar2019coolpig:
Mine is limited to 75 frames due to my 75hz monitor and I wonder if this upcoming update will allow to expand the 'ugrid' and 'cell' parameters to give the immersion of full rendered terrain and vegetation from far away. Because only building structures makes me sad.
I've stopped and went playing Dying Light 2 Stay Human reloaded edition, the distance render are quite satisfying. Everything else in the game are boring as frack but it made me pass the time.

By the way can we hope to see gamma and brightness options with this new update coming? It have been a true nightmare to play this game...is too dark not even my monitor can handle the void darkness in this game.
We need brightness and gamma settings with the update coming.

Careful with modifying uGridsToLoad. The more grids the game loads, the more things happen. This can mean quests activate that you do not want to activate, NPCs get killed far far away and you cannot save them, etc.. It can mess your game up good.

Read carefully before repeating same old warning, everyone tell before adjusting game parameters. I have 2k hours playing this game so I'm aware. Check my previous threads. They were guided through by other helpers, there is no need to repeat what it have been already told.

I'm referring if this next ''next-gen'' update will allow to tweak these parameters without regrets about breaking the game conditions.

You are ignoring that there are a lot of new players coming to the game and they are reading the forums. It is not just all about you. Changes to uGridsToLoad has bombed the game of a lot of unaware players. You do well to include a warning in your comments when you mention it.

Nobody then knows exactly what the coming update contains apart from the announcement. There is no real point in asking. All one can do is speculate and make educated guesses based on Bethesda's previous updates and general practise in the industry.

A change like you are suggesting would require significant changes to the game and plenty of testing. No gamemaker goes to this much trouble for an update. Updates are meant to address important issues, but otherwise not to change the game but to leave it as it is.

The announcement then contains just enough details to draw conclusions from it. So do they mention 60fps, but no higher numbers. If the update would allow for higher frame rates would they very likely have posted about it already. The same goes for graphical improvements like you are asking for. If this was coming would their PR have a field day with it. Alas, you can forget about all those wishes.

The update will very likely be disappointing to PC gamers. It will definitely cause problems for modders. Some mods will even end up dead afterwards due to their authors not caring to update them (TruBy9 has already retired his mod in advance for example).

It is the console players who will benefit from this update. They will be able to play with more than 30fps. This is the big news, to play on consoles with up to 4K and with 60fps.

The game was designed at a time when 60Hz was the standard. The game uses the frame rate for timings. A too high frame rate will make the physics run too fast and can cause other weird behaviours. Dialogues can get cut short, etc.. Not all of these side-effects are significant, but it can occasionally ruin a game.

Best is to install the High FPS Physics Fix, a mod which addresses these issues. Read through its description to see what it all fixes. Then you get an idea of the problems:

I have the long loading times in some areas of the game, such as downtown Boston. But the stuttering when sprinting? Not at all. I have the game capped at 60 fps.
