Wont this be a middle finger to all the mods?

My concern is will it break the mods that currently work. Old mods are old. Authors have moved on in a lot of cases and will not be updating anything,

Most of them will fine when the script extender is updated

Wouldn't that depend on the nature of the mod and what files it overwrites?
To be safe I'll make sure my game doesn't update until I'm sure it won't break my mods.

go to your updates page on fallout 4 and turn it to "update when i run this game" now just launch the game from the script extender .exe

I know of five methods.

1.) Set the Steam client to update the game only on launch, do not allow background updates, and set a time window for updates during a time your computer is off. Also, never start the game again through Steam (do not press the PLAY button), but start it with tools like the F4SE launcher.

2.) Set the manifest file to read-only. The file can usually be found here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\appmanifest_377160.acf. In case you have installed the game elsewhere will you need to search there, i.e. another drive, for the same file. Open the properties of the file and click on the read-only check box and thereby mark the file as read-only. This stops Steam from updating the game. Do not verify the game files after you have done this, or it will unmark the file again.

3.) Hide the game in your Steam Library. Hidden games do not get updated (never tried it myself, but people have reported this to work).

4.) Copy the entire game directory to somewhere else and run the game from there (never tried it myself, but people have reported this to work).

5.) Air-gap your PC or laptop. Simply disconnect it from the Internet and run Steam offline.

Totally agree, that's why I have made sure the update will be block.

SE will be fixed but there are mods I use that are stated as no longer supported, some that have not been updated for many years and others that are not even on Nexus mods anymore.

If they break they will never be fixed and they offer way more than Bethesda's nothing burger.

"Players with PC versions of Fallout 4 on Steam, Microsoft Store and GOG will receive stability, mods, and bug fixes, Bethesda said."

I highly doubt that. For example, there are still long loading times in Fallout 4 that were never fixed, not even with mods and patches. One of the reasons why I never really finished Fallout 4. After a while in the game loading screens get so long that I lose will to play. And I am playing on SSD and modern PC. Somehow I don't think that next update from Bethesda will fix this. They simply don't care. If anything, new update will probably break thousands of mods that now work properly.

Don't use hd texture pack my game takes only 5-10 seconds to load with 200+ mods without hd texture pack.

Again most the old ones rely more on script extender then anything else. Worst case some will be broke and see someone reach out and update it with or with out their original authors permission. There is ton mods like that out there where an old one got abandoned an they redid it for the new version to work sigh. Its like some you are new to modding worst case I got turn of like 5 mods after script extender gets updated.

I really question hell out this post. I got tons of mods and M203 that is gen 3, and I can load this fast as ♥♥♥♥. My old SSD ran vanilia fine as hell. You must one those old SSDs that plug in to same slot as your old mechanichal hardrives and yeah its neat upgrade but its 2024 I can get a m2 SSD for 100 bucks on sale that makes my gen 3 look slow, that could do 3 second load times with mods.

I mean as is I get about 7 second load times unless I installed a fresh mod then it takes a few more, but next load is faster. I think you just don't care about your PC, and I hate "modern" like technichally 2012 some one would call a modern PC lol. I built mine in 2019 and kicks this ♥♥♥♥ out this game my only is video card and that is not an issue in this game unless I do HD mod, since in 2019 bit farmers made the price of GPUs insane so i used my old gpu from last rig. And still haven't replaced it as it can play "modern" games on medium still.

But modern don't mean what you think it does. Modern pc could be from bestbuy brand new, and not run this game because it was built for boomers to check email and youtube lol. Iof you got modern gaming pc then you got M203 better then mine, and GPU that is better and I call BS if you get slow load times with those. I got 3rd gen M203, their on 5th gen makes mine not really modern its 2 gens behind now.

Pretty much only the mods that require the script extender will be effected.

Yes and no. You will need to ensure steam does not auto-update your game on you by setting steam to not auto update. Then as long as you launch through your wabbajack install which is probably mo2 then it will be launching f4se currently installed. mo2 also copies files from steam over to its own folder and runs the game that way not even touching the base files in the steam folder. Overall you should be fine until the wabbajack install updates for the changes this update will make if it is at all.

I have a wabbajack install as well as a vortex setup so should be fun that is for sure.
