There is a workaround, simply Alt-Tabbing loads the scene, I'm running it natural, that is right off the download, yeah BUY it, you wont come across anything u didnt find in NV, bug wise hahaha
Without mods. No.
With mods, yes.
But it ain't really New Vegas in quality. I hardly needed mods with New Vegas except for aesthetics.
The gameplay is way better than Fallout Vegas. Survival mode is so good.
Wait for the sale.
If you like the idea of building/customizing/managing/maintaining various settlements across a post-apocalyptic wasteland you’ll likely pour many hours into that feature alone (even moreso if you start collecting up various mods that add things to build or dramatically expand/flesh out the mechanic like Sim Settlements 2 does).
FO4 can be a lot more fun than NV and FO3, but you’ll find that the commonly held opinion is that it’s not a better RPG than those games nor does it have better writing or a more interesting story.
Long answer: oh yeah
There are alternate start mods. You aren't the parent but learn about events in your wanderings and can pursue things if you wish. Even if you do want to play as a parent you don't have to follow the main quest. Either way I just kill the kidnapper and stop there.
There is a lengthy major mod series called Sim Settlements 2. It's a bit rough and buggy. Also requires a good pc. Plus a London mod to be released in April. I also disable other vanilla quests via mods as for me they are a play once and never again.
As Hawkeye said, there are alternative start mods that allow you to create a character and begin a game without being the Sole Survivor from Vault 111 - just like the Live Another Life mod from Skyrim. I’ve never used it so I don’t know how it goes about integrating the main quest into a non-Nate/Nora character’s playthrough.
Regardless, once you get through the tutorial section and emerge from Vault 111 you’re free to do whatever you want and go wherever you want - you don’t have to engage with the main quest at all if you don’t want to.
In short, question doesnt qualify to be a question in my view. sorry if this feels offensive but thats what i think.
