First-time playing Fallout
Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone would give me some tips on Fallout. I've never played an open-world game before so i'm just curious if there are any hints or tricks i should know about that could help me during my first experience with an open-world. Thanks

For the first few levels stay in the upper left part of the map, that's the northwest part. Enemies get tougher the farther east and south that you go. Watch out for radioactive, flying insects. Pick up everything you can, starting in Vault 111 and in Sanctuary Hills, and be careful not to use up all of your ammo too soon. I'm sure that others will give you even more advice. Good luck.

Oh, and read the wiki about the game https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Portal:Fallout_4. It will give you a lot of information that will be helpful. And don't be afraid to sell stuff to buy more ammo.

Edited to add more advice.

Yeah, use the baton on radroaches rather than shooting them.

You can get Codsworth as your first companion quite early on-- just head to the border of Concord and then return back. Piper and Nick are also available early on and their perks are worth getting sooner rather than later.

Also look for some nearby traders-- Trashcan Carla roams around and Trudy at Drumlin Diner.
I suggest sticking to the main quest until you get past the settlement building tutorial and the quest to go to diamond city. The world is yer oyster after that. Dont worry about building up all the settlements you get quests for. It's mostly optional and it's a stupid amount of work to build them up without using console commands. There are a couple that are worthwhile though, mostly encountered through story.
Don't forget to save. And not just quicksaving or autosaving; make manual saves. If anything goes wrong (either in how you handle a challenge or quest, the game crashes, or some other issue), being able to go back to a recent save is almost always the easiest solution.

A regular save before you start a quest or go roaming can save you a whole lot of grief, and leaves you free to experiment and explore.

I first looked into the FO4 Community Hub when I had already played through FO4 after about 200 hours.
With the Amazon Prime series you have already seen everything about FO4?

after Fallout 3, I logically played FO4. ...
Fallout 3 2008
I enjoyed it so much in year 2022 that I actually didn't know anything about the game.
- I haven't seen a trailer.
- I didn't even know in which country the Settting is.
- I didn't even know in which city the setting is.
- I didn't know "Fallout" Fanchise, and I didn't know the genre either

2022, EPIC gave away FO3 2008 for free,
a game that was censored in Germany until 2016. FO3 is so much better in German DUB than in original English DUB. In German DUB it is self-explanatory, fun, and charming, and essentially a cookie cutter of the extremely popular German game Gothic2 2002. FO3 does not have a single German-language review test video on YouTube.

In English DUB FO3 it is TOUGH, monotonously tedious.
So many English language reviews comment on FO3 as boring, overrated, repetitive, not fun.
Even the smallest spoilers and relativizations can seriously affect the fun of the game FO3.
thanks guys. I will use your advice very wisely. keep the information coming if you can.

Follow the instructions in game and literally just play it. At this point, unless you get problems, you need no other instruction. Literally go blind. The beauty of such games is just stepping into the world as the new guy.

I do not have the latest version of F4, but do not be frightened to start again if things are not going your way. Firstly build build build in Sanctuary and scrap everything that you can, except the work benches for the xp, ignore the quests in your pip boy unclick them all. Just select quests when you need to.

Codsworth I never use the robot, as he complains constantly about picking up junk, which is critical if you want to build stuff, upgrade armour and weapons constantly, Preston I tend to ignore him till I know I have a reasonable build and ammo as he can send you to places that will surely test your ability to stay alive.

Beds must be undercover or happy in a settlement will nosedive, if you do settlements make sure that have all the basics done, do not just plonk a couple of turrets down and expect the settlers to survive, they need all the basics and plenty of defence.

Try to get to vault 81 (spoiler) asap for the most op weapon in the commonwealth which will takedown anything in your way and does not use explosives which means you cannot be hurt by it.

Go to the wiki or the guides section for specific info or google it if unsure what to do in some situations and always save before taking on a new area. Happy looting and shooting:steamhappy:

I would strongly agree with that advice (and most of the other advice given above).

One cautionary note - the main plot sometimes implies you are against the clock and needing to rush. Don’t rush, that will get you killed. The plot will lead you into situations you are not yet ready to handle. So, save often, and be prepared to mahe the decision to back out of missions you are not ready for. The missions will wait until you are ready, in 99% of cases.
