Can't play the game
Yeah, it's me again. I decided to download Fallout 4 again after a while, and this time try to play the DLCs at least.

Usual process, a trip to the TMR guide and download all the essential mods, plus a few things from TMR+. I set up the files and downloaded BethIni, downgraded the game and etc. I opened the game to see if everything was in order. Clicking on New Game, it loads normally... And I get stuck on a black screen.

The game doesn't even crash, it just stays on a black screen, unable to start the intro. I fiddled with my monitor's settings and updated the Nvidia drivers, but nothing worked.

Anyone have any ideas?

Welcome to finding out which of your mods are having conflicts. Disable them one by one until it works.

Check your reading comprehension.

downgrading causes additional trouble. not recommeded for persons who dont know what to do in case of trouble.

if you really insist on a old, outdated version:
1) install vanilla fallout 4. start the game and check if you can enter the gameworld. quit afterwards.
2) install your first mod. start fallout 4 game, check if you can enter the gameworld.
3] repeat with the next mod.
4) repeat until you have installed all mods

sure you can be clever and install a bunch of mods but if that fails you can start from the beginning. also keep in mind loading mods for testing at a current game isnt the same as start a new charkater. things can behave different.

you have been warned.

Here's a heads up, It didn't work. It's the game itself that doesn't want to work (which isn't much news to be totally honest).

That's an unjustified belief unless you've tried to boot your game after correctly and successfully removing all mods and mod dependencies.

It's your mods.

The root cause is most likely that the guides you're following have not been updated for NG. Even if you are trying to do everything downgraded you will still need a guide that's aware of NG issues and downgrade issues.

Look, I'm sorry if I sound like a complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but my experience with this game is terrible. This for me is the most unpredictable game, sometimes it works without me changing anything and sometimes it doesn't. I admit that I make mistakes in cases, but there are times when the game really doesn't want to work, period.

I'm going to leave the game installed on the computer, but I'm not going to touch it for a while, I'm not in good spirits to lose my sanity trying to fix this. Another day probably.

Try disabling any CC content. It isn't downgraded and is often an issue with downgrades.
CrusaderKing Jun 14, 2024 @ 4:32am
Yeah, I've read, none of the suggestions worked. Not even taking this sorry excuse for content solved the problem. I uninstalled the game and cleaned up everything else that doesn't go along automatically. I'm validating the files now, and I'm going to downgrade again and see if anything changes.

might be a hidden pop up box behind the black screen. hit Enter or Activate and you'll hear it close and the intro will start

Mine is doing the same right now! I dont even use mods

Not really, I have two monitors so everytime he would crash I can see a overlay on the application on the second screen, besides, when it crashes, by default the pop-up will overlay the game.

I tried again and It didn't work, although, my best bet is on the Downgrader. I'm gonna try an older version and see what happens.

If you downgrade the game properly, and follow the instructions you should have no problems at all. Clearly something's created a conflict here, something's out of place, a steps been missed.

So:

1 Uninstall Fallout 4 completely

2 Delete any and all folders relating to Fallout 4, this includes the one in "Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common" and also "Users\username\Documents\My Games\Fallout4"

3 Re-install Fallout 4.

4 Follow this guide to the letter, with no skips or omissions. A common mistake people make is forgetting to delete the "CC" files from their install folder.

5 Download and install the apprpriate Fallout 4 Script Extender from here, don't get the 2024 version, get the 2020 version.

https://f4se.silverlock.org/archive/

6 Ensure Weapon Debris is toggled off in your Fallout 4 Options pane, and put everything on medium detail for now. You can change it later once it's all working.

7 Launch the game using the Script Extender, and check everything works, no crashes etc.

8 If all is well edit your ini file to support mods, and carefully begin installing your mods one-by-one using your mod manager. After each mod is installed start the game and test it before moving on.

Do all this and you should have no problems.

I ♥♥♥♥ you not, but I manage to fix it. I dowloaded Beth Ini as requested, here's the thing, It is requested to set language to english on Beth Ini, but on Steam the game is in portuguese. I changed to english on Steam, started a new game and the intro rolled as it should.

Ahh yes, that makes sense. I'll leave that guide above in case anyone else needs it, but glad you got it sorted. Welcome to the wonderful world of pre-Patch FO4, the only way to roll.....
