I never recall him stating that it was because of his aging, just that he does it to play around and whatnot. He is pretty psychotic after all. I looked through Braun and Vault 112's background and found that it was offically listed as experimenting with cryogenics and virtual reality along with the following notes:
-Only James and Dr. Braun are animated with small head movements to simulate breathing. All others found in Tranquility Loungers are static as, shaved adult generic mannequins, only distinguished by gender.
-James is the only one among all others found in a Tranquility lounger with his eyes open and/or blinking.
-It is stated that this vault can house 85 occupants; however there are only 13 loungers, three of which were not occupied before James' arrival.
-This vault is one of the few known that is still inhabited by its original occupants. Other vaults include Vault 101, Vault 3 before it was taken over by the Fiends in Fallout: New Vegas, and Vault 21.
Don't get me wrong, cryo in 111 would be interesting, but it's not as likely and wouldn't make as much sense in my opinion.
-cryo has already been done twice-ish in other vaults, so why repeat an experiment?
-MIT has been doing android work before the war so it would seem perfect to incorporate their work with a local Vault
-the Memory Den shown in the trailer is likely going to be a significant role, possibly regarding the trailer's showing flashbacks that looked in-game
-previous androids were known for having memories wiped, edited, or transferred over from humans, otherwise how else would there be so much detail and self-belief?
-if the Wanderer is in fact revived from cryo, why visit the Memory Den? Cryo only suspends your physical body, whereas if your memories were transferred or even better, locked away for whatever purpose, that would be the place to go.
Gaaaaaaaaaryyyy!
hum the android thing would fit the tone of the game but how they explain radiation because i dont see the PC being immun and a robot should at the very least be resitant to it.

Braun was already old to begin with. He's like 80-somethin and never been outside.
Braun left the VR multiple times over the years even the old lady dithers I believe her name is said that she knows he still uses the fail safe to leave the VR. He doesnt leave anymore but he did leave the VR in the past though.
Now I definitely don't remember seeing that. I know Pinkerton rolled up in there and stole something. I know Dithers can remember what happened in the other simulations. Either way I think we're straying for the original question of what was gonna be the Vault's them? It has been established that cryo has been used before and the whole area is dealing with androids. That's for definite.
I still have not seen cryo being used proven. The VR Simulation wasnt cryostasis as they all aged abit slower than they normally would but they still aged. We did see cryo being used on Mothership Zeta to preserve people from earths history though.

I'm not ruling out cryo, just saying it would seem to make more sense with the android seeing as that's what the surrounding area is all about.
