Play Fallout 3 before Fallout 4?
Hey hey, it's a shame on me I know, I've never played one game of the Fallout Franchise. :<
So it's time to begin isnt it? :D

So the title explains pretty much everything, should i play Fallout 3 before 4?
Wont I understand the story unless I play F3 first? If so, what's the difference between Fallout 3, and the game of the year edition?

Kindest regards, from a sexy goat. :3

You aren't required to play Fallout 3 before Fallout 4 to understand the story as the story will not be the same. I do reccomend you play it though as Fallout 4 will more than likely be similar to Fallout 3.
Fallout 3 Game of The Year Edition has all of the DLC and the base game. I'd reccomend you buy this.

Fallout 3 rebooted the series and Fallout 4 is going to be a continuation of that.

New Vegas continued where Old Fallout left off, it is an entirely different avenue.

If you're playing in anticipation for Fallout 4, try out Fallout 3. But absolutely do play both New Vegas as well as the old titles at one point. They are arguably better games.

You don't have to play the other games. Traditionally the storyline elements that cross over are more like easter eggs for fans that have played previous games, rather than plot points that would be confusing otherwise. They all pretty much start with an intro that fills you in on why there are vaults and war and whatnot.

Also, what Ladez said. Play them at some point because they are excellent games.

Odds are you they aren't gonna be as fun if you play them after Fallout 4 comes out since they'll be severely outdated by the time Fallout 4 comes out. I'd recommend getting Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas and then learn how to install a mod called "Tale of Two wastelands" which puts all of Fallout 3 and New Vegas in the same game with the stability and improvements of new vegas aswell as giving you the option to download all the mods from new vegas which are generally the best mods and still enjoy Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

PLay both. Fallout 3 for the story and lore you will see and new vegas for the potential gameplay. Since new vegas is generally praised for adding in systems probably gonna be implemented in fallout 4, indepth crafting light survival mode iron sights(yea not in fallout 3) and weapon modding.

You don't have to, but I reccomend it.

You got a few months so might as well play them and mod them until then. But if your playing Fallout 3 remember to save before blowing Moira Browns ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid face off. Your going to need to do that several times before finishing her quest.

She gives you a non visible tumor that gives you a perk with only positive effects. What's wrong with her again?

Do it ! So long as you're willing to forgive it for it's clunkiness, it's a great time with all the dlc's for little money.

Just a friendly heads up too, I experienced a lot of crashing with 3 until I found a fix where you have to edit the config. This can be found here

Still the best way to avoid crashing is to just install a tale of two wastelands and CASM and turning off autosaves. Playing regular Fallout 3 is waaaaayyy too much of a drag without those things.

Go cripple yourself for me.
Go get irradiated for me, please.
Go to this minefield that is totally not going to kill you.

I wonder why people don't like her.
