Why would you buy a singleplayer game, then? Judging by your posts it already sounds like you're not going to buy the game at release, and that you're not the target audience for Bethesda. Why should they cater to you if you're not interested in the game?
For me personally: absolutely, i'd love that.
You may not believe it, but for me and many others, co-op is a major defining factor in buying a game or not.
Just like you possibly don't care for point-and-click puzzle games, some people don't care for gaming alone.
If it doesn't have co-op, then no, it would be extremely unlikely that i'd spend more than 10,- on it.
If it's confirmed to have co-op, then i'd be first in line to grab a pre-order.
That's why this thread is about asking if it has Co-op, because it seems this will be the greatest game ever if it does.
Also, balancing issues.
I would be perfectly fine with a co-op addition, only if it will not take away from the singleplayer development in any way.
And that's all we're hoping for. I don't understand why some people get so butthurt about it.
I think it's because I can count the number of games that have included co-op mode without damaging the single player experience on one hand. For example: Borderlands is fun, but you can tell it was made with co-op in mind, and parts of the game can be downright painful if you're playing single player.
Bethesda has absolutely no experience with multiplayer or co-op gameplay, and as such I wouldn't trust them to do it properly the first time around since it's not their focus. No offense, but I think you're vastly underestimating how difficult it'd be to add a proper, fun co-op mode to a single player game, and you don't seem to understand how many aspects of the game it'd impact.
To be fair, Payday 2 was never advertised as a single player game. It's always been a co-op game, and that's what the developers are focusing on. This thread is akin to asking Overkill to make a single player campaign for Payday 2.
It would.
If they never took risks, Fallout would still be a top-down strategy game like it was before. (Fallout 2 has multiplayer btw)
The Old Republic was a first (not perfect) step to a new type of co-op RPG with the dialogue choices. Unfortunately the MMO-aspect stopped it from becoming as good as it could have, but it was a step in the right direction to a complete new type of co-op gameplay.
I think Bethesda could do it, if they tried.
But perhaps they're wise enough to attempt it in a less-hyped series just to prevent the 'fans' from mental meltdowns.. ;)
They didn't take a risk by moving Fallout to the Gamebryo engine. They stayed within their comfort zone with that move, since 3D single player RPGs are their focus and they are intimately familiar with that game engine.
That's was a third party mod. Fallout 2 did not ship with multiplayer, and Black Isle never included it as an official feature.
TOR was a straight up MMORPG, and you even admit that the multiplayer aspect was the weak spot of the game. That's not a very convincing argument, you know.
World of Warcraft was made as the direct sequel to Warcraft 3, and Blizzard has stated that a new Warcraft RTS game is incredibly unlikely. I'd prefer it if Bethesda didn't give Fallout the same treatment.
I have no doubt that they could do anything if they tried, but they should experimented with multiplayer in a spin-off first.
