Shall I buy this on STEAM or GoG?
The full edition of this / DLC included is currently on a GoG sale. My Fallout 3 works better on GoG than the one on here - for whatever reason that is.

Anyone got both for Fallout 4 and is GoG better or no difference please? Thanks.

Fallout 4 on Steam is the next gen version that is also available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. GOG is still the "old" version, before the next gen update.

If you plan to play Fallout: London at some point, get the GOG version. You have to downgrade the Steam version to be able to play Fallout: London.

The steam version is newgen, the gog version is oldggen. Oldgen is required to play FO London. Newgen can be rolled back to oldgen. Oldgen might be better for some mods. Newgen looks better.

Thanks. I was going to get London, yes. GOG has the texture upgrade with 4 so it depends if there is any noticeable difference.

in case they don't get back to you:

For those that have both, The GOG version seems to run better.

Despite the version difference (STEAM is 1.10.984 while GOG is 1.10.163), I think the performance difference comes from not having STEAM monitoring your game-play to award you achievements, as well as not taking up system resources in the background.

There are advantages to buying on GOG... such as actually owning the game VS just a digital play license...And usually paying less.... And having DRM removed...

Thanks. So long as it's comparable to the experience I have with 3 on GOG as opposed to STEAM then it's a great deal for the price with the free texture upgrade.

Texture upgrade isn't the same as the next gen update.

And, do yourself a favour, and don't install that texture upgrade. 😁 It minimally improves the look, but eats a lot of VRam, and makes the install size much bigger...
GOG, GOG, every time GOG. Had this game been released on GOG originally I would've bought it there.

Bloatware essentially then. Think i'm going for GOG fallout 4 because the STEAM version of 3 is such a pain in the ass lol.

GoG grabbed the pre-gen Fallout 4 version 1.10.163 from STEAM and put a wrapper around it to render the STEAM DRM useless.

You can buy the GoG version if you are lefthanded and unable to downgrade fallout 4 by a tutorial.

I have both versions from steam 1.10.163 and 1.10.984 installed and they are working fine.
I have them both form GOG and from Steam.
My rig has a lot of resources ( 64GB of DDR5 RAM running off a Samsung 990 PRO with 7250 mps read speed) so I dont feel a differnce between Steam and GOG.
but for some reason some of my mods dont want to play on the GOG version.
Both my GOG and my Steam are on .163 game version ( my steam version had to be locked down with the .acf file set to read onlyto keep it from auto update)

So right now I play via Steam.
The HD pack from Beth is not that great as others have said, but I was ok with it.
Until I downloaded Luxors 4k Overhaul pack form Nexus.
Its free and works great.

Very odd..

Did you have your mod manager pointed to your GOG install directory? You'd have to manually set it I believe as they auto direct to STEAM...

The HD texture pack is simply a carelessly upscaled bunch of textures that brings no visual advantage but consumes loads of graphic memory. Any fan-made texture pack is better.

A mod manager and tools (e.g. LOOT) are grabbing the Fallout 4 path from the windows registry.

ppl say gog version is required to play London but idk, i'd still prefer steam version.. where almost all of my games are stored. gog forums are wonky, you'll still come here when there is a problem.

its not required... Just easier as to play FOLON you need version 1.10.163....

And some people can't read very well it would seem.... (since there are multiple guides on how to downgrade)

your not wrong but the easiest way to go about that is.. get steam game of the year fallout 4. and get GOG Game of the year.

it doesnt hurt to have Steam/GOG copys.
hell you can get the keys cheap anyways around 8 to 10 bucks. if you know where to look. For steam/gog. Game of the year that is.

why would i say get both Steam/GOG. and why do i have both.? ill explain.

the reason i got GOG. Fallout 4 version. if i want to play Modded Fallout 4. like Fallout London. Heck The mod pack im playing on fallout 4 from vortex A Story Wealth with the gog version. you dont have to Downgrade on gog. your good 2 go. its kinda nicer to play on gog if your planing to mod so you dont have to worry about Downgrading the steam version of fallout 4.

The Reason now why i have fallout 4 on Steam.
its next gen. the currant patch system. Update. if i dont want to play modded Fallout 4 ill use steam. its also installed on my other Drive. so vortex dont get confused.
The only problem with fallout 4 on Steam. you have to downgrade. i find it trouble some. so i got 2 copys.

another problem with the next Gen. on Steam you have to. get a few things that fixes it. like The Next Gen patch fixes on vortex. fallout 4 unofficial patch Wich is nice to have also for gog. fpr both / then you need to get a few other stuff to work the kinks out like. ill mark em down how i usually run fallout 4 on Steam. and a few other things i dont have but these 3 things is what id use. if i dont plan on playing with any mods on Steam.
fallout 4 unofficial patch
fallout 4 load accelerator
FPS Fix.

but then again. i personaly Prefer haveing Both copys. but to be honest i like gog more.
