I dont like to go overbaord and downlaod a bunch and just keep it to 2 or 3
My long time favorite:

My new Favorite (but still use both)
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/91842
And recently I got this one M249, It can be a bit OP but given that its a SAW (and a 308 LMG is included as well) that is more immersive.

but the one that's a part of Combined Arms has better textures, weapon physics, and animations. It does less damage than the standalone one but whether that's a good or bad thing is subjective. I'll just say that if I have the standalone 249 in my hands and hear someone with a MG42 (the Standalone and the one that comes with MF are deadly) I'll take my chances and go toe to toe with them. with the 249 from Combined Arms I'll approach with caution..
only downside to Combined Arms is a couple reload sounds sound like first person, for one of the pistols and the saw*. Overall it's the most polished weapon pack mod that I can remember using.
*edit: if an NPC reloads, no matter where they are you'll hear it as if you're the one reloading
still wondering why NV Got a 1911 and FO4 got Pipe Guns :/
But anyone is free to add more weapons via mods if they want.
All of Neehers weapons ( the Select series) have animations that rvial or exceed AAA studios. (He is also a member of the FOLON team)
Here are his mods:

Check out this Power Armor Bow (among others)

The Select heavy Shotgun is also real well animated and not OP:

Here is one of the ingame pics I took ( wearing his Select Power Armor too)

And many others. All do real well with Power armor.
The guy is a Powerhouse.
However, the weapon variety of previous games was intented as ammo was supposed to be scarce so you had to switch - at last in early game - pretty often between weapons you had the most ammo for. Fallout 4 made this a bit "ad absurdum" as they changed the perk tree to the specific weapon types so switching from a pistol to a rifle cause you have more ammo for it makes less sense now as the damage bonus is missing. Previous fallouts just had "guns" as a skill and later you could add specific perks for the weapon types you wanted to use. Everything has it´s up and downsites.
I don´t like the guns in fallout 4 in general, if you know even just a little bit how guns work most of them don´t make any sense compared to previous fallouts that mostly had real-world counterparts just with different names.
I prefer a bigger choice of weapons in this game with ammo types so i can choose on the fly depending on the enemy i approach what ammo i require. Fallout 4 falls a bit flat with that requiring to change the receiver on the workbench - if even possible.
This whole workbench and legendary system feels displaced.
But the modding community at last tries to solve this problem for the past 10 years.
