Edit: and incase you were not already alert to this; survival and other hard difficulties in this game is essentially just higher number on enemies. more damage, less damage taken. they dont get smarter or anything. the missile launcher guy basically had 2x damage activated on you, because bethesda difficulty settings are incredibly stupid.
I was in some level of combat armor...but not power armor...ooooh....pretty views of Boston...what is that wooshing sound....
....BAM...missile from some downtown rando...likely a super mutant tbh. Their accuracy with heavies is nuts sometimes like you have experienced.
I had a save...but first playthroughs are traditionally perma.
That and I also went in expecting NV progression system along with DT...sigh...
and sometimes when i play starfield, one of the better design choices they made was custom options, although.... tuning the game in your favor gives you an XP Penalty, where as tuning it against you, gives you an XP Bonus..... which...i thought was a little dumb if they let you customize it in the first place.
actually, if i recall right, the way Fallout 3 was setup, you could even get one shotted by a rocket at level 30... without PA. (Personal Note, My character was a frail charisma build :/)
Fallout 4.... Yeah... lower levels even without survival difficulty, and PA you probably wont survive a rocket, or suicide mutant....and definattly not a fatman.
And calling it "unplayable" for certain playstyles is a bit much. Yes, some are not quite well suited to the task. But thats on you to adapt, if somethings not working. Its not hard set class system. You arent stuck using only the self-defined tools of your playstyle.
Damage reduction perks suck.
with shielding and a few points in endurance you even survive a sucider.
This is the norm on SURVIVAL. What do you think SURVIVAL is? patacake? You expect way too much at level 20.
At level 30 and 40 explosives can still take you out pretty easy even in power Armor. Power Armor is no longer a win/wn. PA is now like a tank in real life- pretty destroyable if you run into everything like a loon. I have to be real careful with my explosive shotgun cos if I use them too near me I'll blow myself up and I'm at level 42 in good PA! And don't dare give your Follower anything explosive until you get the Perk that stops them hurting you!
However, there are ways to lessen the effects when you know what you're doing. Eventually it gets way too easy.
It's not at all unplayable or unfair. Just think of it like real life and take the appropriate measures`.
there is a survival mod for every difficulty, i play on normal
theres also the Damage Reduction from a few other perks that have conditions..or need to be higher level to work.
