Salems Barney Rook dead is not a glitch
Think I've finally figured out why Barney Rook is dead on some playthroughs. Went to Salem during radiation storm, killed the mirelurks on his porch and went straight into his house by hopping over the fence to meet him. Barney was losing his hp and died.

It's weird that crucial quest npcs are not immune to radiation, but hey it's Bethesda.

Unfortunately, while they cover things properly about 99% of the time, it's that 1% where they drop the ball and a problem gets noticed that you remember.

A lot of NPCs have a hidden perk that grants immunity to radiation just to keep things convenient, but I guess not Barney Rook.

based on the wiki apparently he doesn't have a permanent refid so it's no surprise that he lacks the essential flag.

Are the storms programmed to go off at (Salem) area when you get to it? it's a game time thing with storms?

've seen a variety of different weather types there, and I mostly only go to settle Barney's quest and visit the Sandy Coves Convalescent Home.

If you're able to reach the console (ie: not survival mode) you might try the ForceWeather command and remove a storm as it seems to be forming, but that's kind of a last-ditch and may always run the risk of breaking your game later on even with stupid crap like weather.
