Looks Menu not working

Hello boys,

Any idea why the slm command doesn't seem to work any more?

I get this error :

Item 17ec3 not found for parameter ObjectReferenceID
Compiled script not saved.

However it works on characters like Piper.

Any idea why? What's going on?

Because it was broken from the update. Go check the mods you have, because this was a known problem with the update.

What update? The Nexus page says it was last updated in June of this year. I'm not seeing anything in other tabs either.

The NG update back in April/May changed the internal file structure, as well as modified the Facegen data for ALL npcs in the game.

This is a KNOWN issue with game versions 1.10.980 and 1.10.984.

AAAAANNNNNDDDDD..... Since the facegen data has been ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up by the NG update... Looksmenu can't modify or change it. This is a KNOWN issue for Looksmenu and has NOT been solved (as its out of their wheel house).

X-cell mod helps with this issue to some degree but for the most part, looksmenu is a "dead" mod in terms of functionality in fallout NG compared to old Fallout 4 (1.10.163)

And THIS would account for the 11 pages of reports of people not being able to modify characters with looksmenu, in the link provided by Zekiran... (which you didn't read)

Don't presume I didn't read. I read it quite in detail in fact. What you call a known issue is - with subtitles - a known issue for journeymen modders which I'm not.

The very first line of the nexus description says : Requires F4SE for game version 1.5.157 or greater, there is no mention of "known issues" with the next gen update and the forum and posts is a proper mess.

Also, it worked for me on Piper so how was I supposed to know as if I was modding it since 2015 ?

What do people with mods depending on LooksMenu do in this situation? Is there an alternative? (I haven't seen one yet) or do they downgrade to a previous version?

And by the way I know modders are extra prickly about **** READ THIS OR YOU DIE **** but this is ridiculous. There is a limit to what percentage of people they can get to read their descriptions and no matter how much you they'll insist and write in big red fonts, some will just rush to the download button and ask for help later. I like to think that I'm of the ones who actually read everything (everything I understand that is). So chill OK? Either help wholeheartedly or move along.

Notice the page: on it right in the middle is a bunch of tabs listed as Files, Images, Videoes, Posts, Forum

Click on the posts tab and read... I just read the first 11 pages... which takes us back to 27/07/2024 and the majority of posts talk about how Looksmenu is not working (presets, changing character, etc)

If we check the Forum tab:... The first 4 pages are all bug reports that have come in since the NG update (it actually goes past the first 4 pages, but most of them in the first 4)...
issues range from "greyed out options" to "face distortion" to simply "looksmenu not working"

Did you read any of these? Or the posts?

Reading just the title splash page of a mod is not enough, Look into the posts about a mod and the forums of a mod... It WILL save you headaches and stop you from downloading broken and corrupted mods in the future.


AS I said earlier, Look into X-cell, its the mod people are relying on for the face geometry so they can add presets, remove character generated stutter, and modify characters.

Look I'm not trying to be an a-hole here. I too realise that too many people don't bother reading the fine prints so they rush to the posts to complain about incompatibilities, which I read but they didn't seem related to my issue since the mod worked fine for me the several first times I used it. You can check any mod's posts/forum tab and you'll see 90% of people asking for help for this or that problem but it doesn't mean the mod doesn't work. Also, I've seen mods with a tenth its popularity just outright putting a disclaimer when it doesn't work any more. The description page doesn't say a word about that. The author doesn't owe me anything but you gotta see where I'm coming from.

So many cosmetic mods depend on Looks Menu I find it very surprising that a solution hasn't been found since the release of the Next Gen update several months ago, given how talented the community is at modding the game.

EDIT : X-Cell made my piper disappear so I guess I'm screwed...

quick fix might be to change her hair to see if she reappears. if not the stickied posts on X-cell mod page probably have the actual solution
