Fallout 4 GOTY Edition in 2025 worth it?
Hey, I've played Fallout New Vegas, and I used to play Fallout 4 on Xbox One, when it was released. I saw that Fallout 4 GOTY Edition is going for $15 right now on GoG. Is Fallout 4 Worth playing in 2025?

I know that the story isn't great. but is the gun-play any good? I also want to play it without mods, if i decide to buy the game. How well does it run generally? Fallout 4 is basically find you son, Fallout 3 is find your dad, and Fallout NV is find the Platinum Chip. I've never played the DLC's though, are they any good? Thanks!

Yes it definitely is.

Your hardware and OS/system software will determine whether the game runs smoothly out of the box or if you'll likely have to tweak bits in the INI.

I'd suggest going through the GUIDES tab in this section for help if you need it. But it's 100% worth buying and particularly for that price. The GOTY is essential for most mods found online, but if your goal is vanilla it's just fine for that right now in either the pre-update .163 edition (required for running the major overhaul Fallout London, or some old mods we have) as well as the Next Generation Updated version (which adds iffy fan-made content with the Enclave likely because of the tv show having so much to do with them, it's not a great addition imo but that's because I despise both having added content I did not want, nor the faction... that's just me though).

But like I said, tweaks will likely be needed if you have modern equipment, the game is old and the engine is cruddy. But with a little nudge here and there most people do not have any issues running it.

Most people here would say that it is worth it. The quality of the quests varies from very good to meh, but there's a huge amount of pretty decent content.

Vanilla without mods is fine. Vanilla + Load Accelerator or High FPS Physics Fix is almost vanilla but helps load times without changing the game itself or affecting achievements.

A 60 fps limit and possibly a widescreen hud mod is all you need. Although Fallout4 now offers widescreen support, Bethesda ‘forgot’ to rescale some HuD elements. This leads to unclickable areas depending on your screen resolution.

Wait didn't we just have a post like this? I'll just post what I did there.

I would say not as good as FO3 (maybe been a while since I last ran it) and especially not NV except the graphics and anims are better. The only way I could really enjoy it was to mod it. For example I removed the protagonist voice with a simple mod which, for me, at least, jumps up the immersion. I also removed a lot of the handholding. I also added a few aesthetic mods for grittier gameplay, and went Survival. but that's a different issue.

After that I was able to get into the game and once you do explore (don't just follow the MQ) it actually gets quite good. In fact compared to most modern AAA games I'd say it's way better.

Definitely get it if it's that price on GOG. bargain.

Unfortunately, Fallout 4 is only worth playing on even years. You'll have to wait until 2026.
