They already existed.
Like having the Radiation suit actually block 100% of radiation while wearing it.
Anything poisonous in the air would have dissipated long ago. Gas masks are unneeded.
Sequels typically take place after the last game happened. Certain links I think said it was ten years after fallout 3.

Remember that your character likes to cut-off the left arm of the outfit so they can show off their pip-boy!
You don't want gas mask added - they've been in the game from the beginning.
You want visual *overlays* when wearing the gas mask to block you view - ala Project Nevada.
