Wait, you updated Steam and your Fallout 4 game ist brocken?
Which steam update?

You mean the Fallout 4 update from LAST YEAR?

There are a number of guides under the "guides" tab here on Steam that will help you get it working again.

But without more detailed info from you about your system, and what EXACTLY is happening in Fallout 4, that is the best we can do for you.

if it's not starting up in the first place, then perhaps it is indeed steam

try opening it's folder directly ( right click the game in your library sidebar under manage choose "local files" and go to the folder from there )

in that folder, launch the game by double clicking the fallout4.exe directly
bypassing steams launcher option ( this does nothing in terms of excluding steam, it just doesn't require the "green play button"

if there is a mislink between play button and exe, then that would show it
if the exe itself doesn't launch we have a whole other problem

-----------------------------------------------

if you are playing modded, then non of this is relevant and you are launching trough f4se_loader anyway

if you are playing on the old version and do not wish to update the game THEN DO NOT CLICK ON THE FALLOUT4.EXE ( assuming you are modded and F4se_loading )

False, since you can and should have gone through the effort of making the game impossible to update with the manifest set to read-only and other means. Starting the game up using F4SE ONLY will never touch the exe in question - the exe is what triggers the update.

To be fair, while it’s still possible, Steam is making it harder to block updates.

This is true. Their current Beta for the client may prove to be ... kinda of a crapstorm here. particularly here.

I done that myself but we should not have to go to that extent to block updates for a game we PURCHASED fairly... Steam treat people like little childs who cannot make descisions for themselves.

Until Steam revised his postions on users control i will stop purchase games on steam and took them on gog when it's possible.

Please read your Steam TOS again...

You don't PURCHASE anything on Steam. You buy a license to use software - a license they reserve the right to revoke at any time.....

I can't tell if that my problem too, Fallout just opens, i hear the audio but nothing in the taskbar.
Also how'd that one guy get banned. heh. Also yes, every steam license is a subscription.

don't worry about the ban, it's universal
they could have been annoying in a whole different thread somewhere on a different forum and got banned ( read timeout ) over there and it will show up in every post in their name for the next 24 hours :)

should probably make a new post for that question to get the most possible replies back

While I do not disagree with your statements, the fact remains that you have never owned any software unless you wrote the entire thing from scratch yourself. Literally every piece of app, drivers, software, games, anything that you've ever installed since the dawn of PC use, has been 'licensed'. Not purchased.

They should, in fact, make other prior versions of the game available. But that likely requires them to alter their contract with Bethesda. Steam is doing the service that would simply never have existed in the early era of small "five five-inch floppies" gaming. Their usefulness vastly, and I mean vastly, outweighs the problems that some people have with the system.

But the fact still remains that you can and should have taken steps to prevent the update from occurring nearly a year ago if you had the game installed, and kept up with the fan-based side of things yourself. You are an end-user, not an investor, in any part of this process. And "let the buyer beware" is valid for over 2 thousand years now.

You just proved my point, I shouldn't need to adjust any files to stop the update. No other games are asking to update, only Fallout 4, in fact its set to update thursday if I don't touch it, even though its set to update on launch. Yes I know another way to stop the update, which is fine, but Steam is the one putting the F4 update into the queue whenever I start up Steam, and only that game. I have all my other games set the same.

To be honest I think i'm just gona remove the game.
