Either you are running a locked version of fallout 4 (locked to the 1.10.163 version). And missed the update in May 25 2024 that updated the game to 1.10.983/
OR
You're using MO2, the SAME install you used when you originally installed fallout 4 and mods... in which case, MO2 has a way to "bake in" the version of F4SE that was originally installed on it, and refuses to simply update it. -Even if you do a manual install of the correct version of f4se, M)2 uses an old copy..... There is a fix for this, I just don't know it as I don't use MO2 (it and me have issues).
The other option is you in fact did not grab the newest version (doubtful, if you got from Nexus, since its the very first link)
When you "Purged" did you:
!; Uninstall through Steam.
2: Navigate to your Steam install directory, locate the fallout 4 directory and MANUALLY DELETE it
3: Navigate to Documents\my games and DELETE the fallout 4 folder there?
4: restart computer
5: install Fallout 4 through steam.
Because if you missed steps 2 through 4.... Well... Steam uninstall only removes the files it puts there, NOT files from mods.... And it doesn't touch the Documents folder at all, leaving all the old scripts from your previous install -ESP f4se dependant mods!
So, you may want to do those steps, then SLOWLY install mods ONE AT A TIME. With f4se being the first mod you install.
Hmm, I could try to re-validate the files. I did go back and get the old f4se and noticed
the main menu told me to update. Wonder if validating the files will fix some things. If that don't work I can just see about purging again and making sure to go through the steps to make doubly sure
Oh trust me, I didn't bother downloading it through Vortex. It's one of the few mods that I manually place in the files
I am trying to run the game at its newest version. I made sure to put F4SE in the exact folders. Still told me I'm running an old version of Fallout 4. I actually checked the properties of the exe and surprisingly enough it IS the older version of Fallout 4. At this point I am reinstalling Fallout 4 in hopes of that fixing the problem.
Ok!
We are getting some where!
On a side note: You probably locked your copy of fallout4 back when you were playing and modding, its a smart, common practice - But can lead to confusion when you stop playing for a while :P
First things first:
Make sure weapon debris is OFF in the settings. Thanks to a an architecture change AND instruction change by NVIDIA, Weapon Debris will crash a modern card now.
(That is a big one)
IF that does work, Sdack has a guide that is great to follow through and solves 90% of the issues. I will link it here when I find it myself.
Here we are....
This is one of the best trouble shooting guides out there. Follow along with what he says and it solves about 90% of the issues people have, and is a great starting point.
After that has been tried, we can move on to more "interesting" bugs and fixes.
Hey, sorry, I found a solution. I just reinstalled the game and brute forced to find a mod that was causing trouble. Thanks anyway!
