Every report I read says " no".... But things are changing...
Correct. In fact most games of 10 years ago or more are way better than the `AAA` dross we have today. Eye-bleedin' graphics does not a good game make.
Only Asia (China for example) is making anything gamers actually want. I believe only they can give us a great sandbox Fallout/Skyrim CRPG - Only they can do a better job until Western Devs and companies are reformed.
I share these exact same sentiments. Most of the games I frequent were released before 2016. I have enjoyed newer AAA games but never stay long.
Every time I want to boot up a Bethesda game I'm imminently turned off by just how disgusting it feels without copious amounts of fan patches.
Actually 30 year old games ran pretty damn well.
But you weren't around then were you?
And tastes differ. I only started to love Fallout 4 after I modded out many RPG stuff and made it more shooter-like (although I don't play normal shooters). I like(d) it more than Fallout 3 or New Vegas in the end, or any other RPG, it's my favorite game.
I'm quite interested what AI assisted game design can do in the future. Maybe there is hope even for Bethesda? (although after the experience with the DLC for Starfield I have my doubts)
When DEI and woke go away, games might get better.
SBI are just leeches pushing their agenda, sucking up monies from developers looking for "creative input"....
The fact that "creative input" is NOT in the studio to start with is the problem.
As to the "big money" pushing the agenda, look no further than Blackrock Investments: One of the largest Investments houses in the world, and if you're a Union Guy, chances are they handle your Union's portfolio.... which gives you some push back if you can get your Union to push... which can be very hard as the Unions themselves have an Agenda issue that we are fighting from the inside as well....
(The D.E.I rot is everywhere)
Underrail is also good.
Sadly, not many alternatives for 3D Fallout.
Stalker series is a bit like Fallout and it's worth to play, but it's more like a action FPS game than proper RPG.
Also there is Chernobylite 1/2.
