Should I Still Downgrade For Modding
First time going to play fallout 4 and try and mod the game, mainly overhauls, gameplay changes for a better experience and bug fixes.

Before I install the game again and try to mod for the first time (Fallout 4), I'm searching for a guide and I came across The Midnight Ride guide.

Looking at The Midnight Ride guide on google. I don't know if it's updated or not to work in 2025.

He does say to downgrade in the guide, but like I say, I don't know if it's worth it now...

Cause I remember people saying that their mods still work after the Next Gen update
(1.10. 984), and that it is the F4SE that wasn't working anymore..
but it's been updated now (the F4SE) to work with the Next Gen update (1.10. 984)...

Is the guide worth following? Should I downgrade or skip that step?

(Also I use Mod Organizer 2 for modding, I played New Vegas with mods and Oblivion)

Most mods worked without any issue at all.

F4SE required mods had to wait until F4SE was updated about 3 weeks or so and since then should work fine.

Some mods that needed to have their file structure change to include the BA2 changes made in the ng update may or may not still need to be updated by their creators.

If your chosen mod set of Midnight Ride is a collection, you need to make sure that literally everything IN it is updated or fully compatible if you choose to downgrade, which is in my opinion not worth it for *any* collection. While it might have been really terrific for years, the ng update *did* change things that may be hidden among collections.

You need to manually make sure that your version of F4SE is the CORRECT one, I'd suggest if you are going to downgrade, go to their site and find the archive for the prior version. The current NGU version is available on Nexus - don't rely on ANY mod organizer to install it or LOOT for that matter, since both of them should be where you want them to be, and the right version for your needs.

It's been 10 months, it's safe to say that most mods which will be updated, are updated or at least in progress. So it's entirely up to you to decide whether the rollback for a collection that might be broken anyway, will be worth doing.

I'm still on the prior because I have basically irreplaceable old mods that I'm pretty sure won't work or have versions that I didn't care for before the update. Being like 27 days play time into this run, I'm still going to tough it out. Next run, I'llllll have to figure it out for next gen.

Yes when i clicked on the Mods that The Midnight Ride was directing me to on the website, I did check to see which version of the F4SE he was directing me to and it is an older version of F4SE on Nexus.

I think I might not downgrade, but I'll still look into it more.
Thank you for the reply.

In the end, just make sure that all your mods, launchers, organizers, and the game itself, are suitable to one another, and in the right load order.

Only you can decide how much buggy crap will be worth while :D
You know, it's getting where the mods work with the NG version and not with the old version.

Ah yes I looked through the mods and also looked at the posts and saw most mods that I want to use do work with the NG version.

i've never upgraded. the .163 version works fine and probably will be the last fallout 4 version i happily play. i am not interested in cc club content.

ngl i think downgrading would've been better..
i installed the game and i'm following the Midnight Ride guide and there's some mods that aren't being updated anymore (they don't work with the NG update :steamsad: ) that looks cool to use,
like the Holstered weapons mod and the Bullet Counted Reload System
Just came back from a downgrade it took forever to install and was nerve racking. Several extra steps but once installed it ran janky as all hell. Yes I got mods to run I never could have but on a lower end pc or steam deck the game breaks trying to keep up. I’m going back to next gen it looked better ran smoother.
