MCM not present.
Anybody ever have any issues with the MCM not being present on the pause screen? I have multiple other mods running, not showing any conflicts according to Vortex, so I'm wondering if it might be a mod load order? Anybody have any tips that I might be able to try?

I've always installed MCM manually and haven't encountered any problems with it that way.

Are you using the updated NG version of the game? Did you reacquire MCM for that version?
Thanks for the follow up guys, but I have a few questions. Pretty much brand new to modding save a little experience with Skyrim, but I've noticed Fallout seems to be a bit more tricky so bear with me if you will.

I can try installing it manually but I'm not entirely sure how to go about that, I can review the instructions on the mod page but any tips will be appreciated.

As far as the updated NG version, not even sure what you mean by that exactly and is it best to search for mods that are most current typically or is there a better way to ensure compatibility. I've noticed that some mod creators will give a wealth of information on how to ensure they're compatible while others are very generalized in their descriptions.

Ok...

so first you will want to know what version of fallout 4 you have. If you have installed the game AFTER may 13, 2024 then you have fallout 4 1.10.983 (Fallout 4 NG) If you installed before that date, AND locked your game files, then you are possibly running 1.10.163

Its important to know what version of fallout 4 you are running, because Bethesda pulled a "Skyrim AE" level crap on the fallout 4 community with the "NG" patch back in May... And broke many, many, many mods. Some have been fixed. Some can not be fixed. -and using the wrong mod on the wrong game version will not work.


For the Mod Configuration Menu (MCM) to be properly installed you need to:
1: install f4se correctly.
2: install the correct MCM file for your game version (fallout 4 NG uses the BETA2 files)
3: Launch the game using the F4SE launcher file, and NOT the fallout 4.exe file, or the steam "Start" button.


Also:

Use a mod manager. If you don't like mod managers.... Use a Mod manager.
MO2, Vortex, NMM CE, we don't care.... just use a mod manager! :D
(and take some time to learn how to use it... it WILL make you life so much easier!!)


And, yes... Fallout 4, compared to Skyrim, is a bugbear with mods at times.. the engine is not as stable, and the additional code and function calls really stress an already stress engine.

If you downloaded the game from Steam after March or May of last year when the game was updated, you have the Next Generation Updated version.

On PC there were few actual 'upgrades' but it was intended to bring higher quality to consoles, not pcs. The problem is that ON pc it also changed the file format for BA2 files. That means that a lot of mods that have that file structure needed to be updated or accessed differently by F4SE.

There is no easy way to sort through the 40-50 thousand mods online, save by going through YOUR download history if you got them on Nexus. That's the easiest way: if they have an UPDATE since May of last year, check it! It means that the mod maker may have improved or changed, or done something needed to the files to work right with the updated game.

If they are large mods or mods that require other mods to WORK, always check their base mod AND if there are patches.

The vast majority of mods were not broken, but to run a modded game (aside from in-game menu downloads which go directly from bethesda) F4SE needs to be on the correct version with the game so they had to update F4SE. That fixed most problems, but some mods are individually needing it.
don't know which mod manager ( if any ) you're using , I've never had any trouble installing that mod via my mod manager download .
I always try to install my mods via a mod manager if I can , much easier to do . I know all too well what happens if you get a manual installation wrong , best case scenario , the mod doesn't work , at worst , it can turn into a delete and reinstall episode .

MCM shouldn't have any esp, so it's just loose files need to be placed in right directories. your mod manager will do that.

And you need to set your ini files right.. in order to load loose files correctly.

ps: it's a f4se plugin, do i need to ask you already have it installed?
I just uninstalled my manual intstallation of MCM and loaded the .zip right into MO2 and well whaddya know, it still works, whereas I didn't figure that it would. Wow, color me impressed.

Yeah MCM does not require a mod organizer to download because it is not a mod as such, far as I know.
That's how I always saw it, as something that had to reside alongside F4SE in the Data folder
So far, so good though.

Yeah, it's one of the few things I'd manually put in, because that iirc is what they actually tell you to do with it. Since it's fairly straightforward once you know where the folder is.
