How to remove quest items from inventory.
The title says it. I am playing a mod that removes all of my inventory but it causes my game to crash because some of my items are quest items. The game completely freezes but I still have audio. I am assuming it gets stuck in some of lot trying to remove the items but then stopping and then trying again rinse and repeat. How do I get rid of these items, and if its a console command, how do I find the item number for things in my pit-boy. I would also like to say I understand I need to be careful with mods and I don't care if I lose the items as I have played this game plenty legitimately.

Removing them is literally breaking the game's code, so yes it makes sense that a mod you got to do that crashes it.

So typically you cannot do this.

WHICH mod are you using to try and do this?

This one seems to 'work' but with definite issues so read the forum posts before downloading. If it is this one, READ THE POSTS and see if your problem can be fixed by moving it down to the bottom of the load order.

If not that one? They don't take up any space and they don't weigh anything. There's no reason to do anything with them at all. And this is coming from someone who increases carryweight to 20000 so I have a LOT more to sort through every time.

I've been using the mod zeliran linked to to move Eddie Winter holotapes to a safe tell I'm ready to use them

I also store my bubble heads and magazines in a clutter holotape -instant Clutter Container - Store your Junk https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/51429/?tab=files

Those aren't quest items. The eddy Winter tapes can be removed at any time. There's a small handful of items however that cannot be dropped like the BoS sidequest tapes, and one of those canister things from someone else's quest.

This clutter container ONLY works BECAUSE you have the mod that Zekiran linked to. Without that, you would still not be able to drop quest items.

As far as finding the ID to remove items with a RemoveItem console command, you'd either have to look the ID up on the wiki, in the Creation KIt, or some other listing source, OR use the ShowInventory command on yourself and scroll through a great big list of the items in your inventory (which provides all the IDs with them, but can be huge if you've done a lot).

But it's not at all recommended since the game will sometimes expect those items to be present, and get very unhappy about it.

You can also use workbench glitches to "accidentally" scrap quest items, but the result has the same issues as removing them with a console command.

Don't pick them up e.g. leave the Silver Shroud costume alone. You can't sell it and wearing it only gets the fan-boi killed, and it's heavy.

One of the problems may be that the mod is not recognizing an item to remove or trying to do something like throw an item on the ground that has no textures. Have you checked the forums on the mod page? Surely someone else has encountered and reported this issue there.

there are some bugged quests like polymer lab quests, where items stay stucked after

For Cambridge Polymer Labs in particular, directing a companion to inspect the receptacles where you place the canisters allows you to add another one even if it's already occupied. Repeat until all excess canisters are gone.

Funny thing: I have 7 out of 9 of them and I put them in my cabinets because I can't do the quest, it's busted thanks to a stupid mod that I keep forgetting I've put in (and removed, but the damage was done).

This is highly unlikely to be to do with anything else, that mod has so many bug reports I don't even know why anyone would install it?

You might be outta luck there, if you're a ways into the game. Read up on whether that mod is safe to remove mid-game, remove it *PER THE MOD'S INSTRUCTIONS ONLY IF IT SAYS IT IS SAFE* and start over.
